Just curious but will these new Uber models still have flash and mould lines to remove?

If so, the 'better quality product' will be lost on most gamers judging from the quantity of general 2nd hand figures I have picked up over the years where these never seemed to be removed before the model is covered in a Devlan Mud paintjob...

Therefore whats the point in this wondrous, and expensive advancement...?

Most will actually come on a sprue:

Of course there will be mold lines, probably not as bad as metals though, and a damn sight easier to remove!

I'll be doing some tests as what can be used to strip it, I'll be testing Fairy Power spray :)

Post subject:  Re: Citadel finecast

I tried to stay away from the discussions about this... this... finecast thing they are starting... to calm down a bit before reacting...
However, I'm too disappointed to keep myself out of this.

Untill now, I was a (little bit over-obsessed) collector of all their LOTR minis/components.
A while back I cursed a little when they re-released the balrog in plastic, which was the same as their metal one. However, I was collecting all, so I needed both versions, metal and plastic.
Untill today, I bought it all...

There is no coin in my wallet that will even allow me to consider to keep my collection up-to-date with having both plastic and metal figs.
This fantastic Citadel-idea has just stabbed me big time in my pride of the collection I have.
This also made me decide, for which I'm GW very very thankfull (!!!) that I no longer wish to keep my collection further up-to-date. It all ends today from my part. I have what I have and will probably not expand it. So, I guess I have to thank GW now for not feeling anymore like I need it all.
And with the Hobbit-releases in my mind, I will now not feel so bad anymore about not having to buy a plastic dragon that will probably cost 6-billion pounds or so...

Together with their price-injection (wish my loan-index would raise as much as their toys!!!) and their new EU-discount-store-policy-decision of stabbing a knife in the other worldwide fellow hobbyists (using the foreign valuta as an excuse), I feel even bad about ever buying their stuff and having contributed (even if it's only for a sand-grain in their mountain) to their success.
I feel abused by them so they could feel like the greatest, the mightiest, the best, the... the... the... - *breath... breath... breath...* - whatever other arrogance they smear them in with...

I had only just picked up my mumak again and completed assemblage and even started painting it with an article in my mind. I now disgust myself for even playing with the idea of writing more articles of their reshaped GW-recycled-plastic-sprues they begged us for a while ago.
There are so many other great miniature-companies around which have a variety of figures that could fit well for replaceables of theirs, and I bet I'll be looking for those instead!

I guess I still need to cool down a bit more... :S

Well said bart, I can kind of understand your frustration. However....

Today I went to my local GW store to pick up my order (weathertop aragorn, metal) and I had a talk to the staffers there about the new finecast range. Apparently it's a sort of resin/plastic hybrid, meaning that we still get the detail of resin, but none of its brittleness. The manager said that he was able to remove a mold line by simply scrapng it off with his fingernail. The other guy said that he once bumped a finecast model off the table onto the ground, and remained perfectly intact. The manager also cited a test that was conducted, whereby a model was kicked across a room, and not a single piece was broken. Apparently the model actually bounced!

However, he mentioned that, the models being like resin, we must wear a face mask when filing or sanding them.
But they also said that the miniatures were a cinch to put together from the frame. No pinning, no greenstuff. Win :D

Of course, I'll be ordering them from my indie friend who usually gives about a 10% discount or more when I buy GW products...and he still has some decent second hand metal stuff I can pick up cheap

Seems to me that the new range isn't so bad after all. They probably talked it up a little bit, but I've found the guys there to be pretty honest :)

I suggested that an exemplar finecast model for LOTR would be elladan or elrohir, and the manager agreed, with the addition that the twins' detailed headbands would not slowly erode to a flat circlet like the metal ones tended to.

Cheer up people, they're not forcing you to buy them anyway... :-D

I think the finecast mini's will be really good but like all Australians here it's the cost.

I am not going to duplicate any of my figures with fine cast. I am also not going to bother to pick up the last few metal 40K figures either.
I have enough interest in the Hobbit to wait and see.

You should use a dust mask when you sand anything.

Just had Junes White Dwarf delivered, its all about Fine Cast, all the benefits, would you believe one of them is that your case will not weigh as much! LOL

But does confirm no more metals, ever.

There is a good scenario of SBG featuring the Fellow Ship (now in resin).

Yeah but is every previously metal model gonna be available in finecast? or do i have to be fast and purchase now on the rarer non-movie models like cirion and madril or the woses?

That's the question I wish GW would just answer for everyone. Should I hold off on purchasing some of the more likely metals that have a higher chance of being Finecast soon (but at a higher price) or ignore those and get other models that may not make the transition, even though I am less interested in them for now and not likely to play them for a long time.

Also, any word if warrior blisters, like Uruk Berserkers, are still going to be only 3 to a pack at the higher Finecast cost? It would be nice if they at least made them 4-packs so you only need 2 for a Company.

Well, yeah. That has always been one of the drawbacks of metal, having to lug a couple hundred heavy figs around.

'Zerkers and Crossbowmen at least will be 4 to a pack. The Finecast 'wave' is going to start wit the most popular stuff and work back (makes sense, really), which may work as a rough guide to what's going to get the treatment when. But will the fact that The Hobbit's coming soon (relatively speaking) mean a lot of LotR stuff will be prioritised? That'd be nice. In any case, A lot of stuff is going to be produced in metal for a long time, some things (I guess Specialist game and collectors items) won't be moving to Finecast at all. Any models that are due to be redone 'soon' (No idea how long 'soon' actually is) will likely not be re-done as FC, instead, there'll be a wait until the new models are designed and in use. From what I know the price rise from metal to FC isn't a massive hike. This month's WD has some details. The big posters in GW's shops also indicates some of what's being redone right away. Some of this is RUMOUR by the way, and I won't get offended if people don't accept it blindly as fact.

True, to an extent. They're just forcing us to buy the Finecast if we want particular models from them. I simply won't.

Was in GW today, eventually all White metal will be phased out over a period of time... so most popular models will be replaced first then the not so popular.

^ The staff at mine said they were going to be packing up all their metals and sending them back to GW head office, so the store is gonna be pretty bare for a while.

Ok sounds alright to me, but is it 100% sure that they wont be completely getting rid of the range, just replacing it with resin over time?
