I think the Bard from the DOS book could very well be the model included with the wind lance. The pose and equipment would fit.

This almost certainly means Wind-Lance rules! SWEET!

If its plastic and massive, I will jump for joy but still not sure I can justify the expense. $490!!! And to think people were wondering if if would come in at $150-$200. Wow.

Is a miniature that big (the biggest dragon they've ever made) even feasible in finecast as apposed to plastic?

The biggest result for me is the logo on the cover. That suggests hope for the hobbit range, all in finecast or not!

Surprised - I was starting to think they wouldn't do a smaug at all.

Regardless I won't be buying one - although in this case it's not the fault of GW (well $490 ...*rolleyes*) but rather a PJ issue - I prefer my dragons with 4 legs, not two.

LOTBR this is what I was referencing. Roughly $100 cheaper if the reported theft price is correct.

Looks pretty cool. I still don't understand how any of these companies charge so much for products made of the material they are.

Thievery. I'm still working on developing my game and with the cost research I've done, it's nothing but that. GW could make good money at significantly reduced prices

I'm expecting a price tag of 700+ in Australia. Lol.

Absolutely. I haven't purchased any miniatures directly from GW since ROTK. The prices down here in Australia are out of control.

Smaug 1 miniature online only $490
Bard the Bowman with Windlance 1 miniature $40
Lake-Town Militia Captain 1 miniature $20
Lake-Town Militia Swordsmen 3 miniatures $25
Lake-town Militia Bowmen 3 miniatures $25
Lake-Town Militia Spearmen 3 miniatures $25

Ok apart from the ...huh?... price of smaug and bard... am i the only one curious about the lake-town militia? i mean arent those already released? and didnt the previous lake town release fail enough to warn GW that for a swarm unit packs of 3 for this price is making everything even worse? :(

I actually dont get why people are so excited for Smaug. Hes practically unusable to like 99% of us.

I'm not sure I would use Smaug, but I will have Smaug. Some day I will show him to my grandchildren. I'm very sentimental about Tolkien's stories. They were bedtime stories for me, and right now I'm living through a brief span of time where people are sculpting each of these gorgeous artifacts. I probably take a bit of a funny view of all this stuff. I've always wanted it, and I have no doubt I will want it for the rest of my life. I recognize that I only have a few years when these weta/Jackson inspired things will be made, so to a certain degree cost isn't an issue for me. I know I'll be grateful to myself in a decade, that I strained my budget for this stuff when it could be had.

That, Thurin, is a statement I agree with wholeheartedly and could not have put better myself. (except the bedtime story part - Dad wasn't reading fast enough :-D )

In my imagination right now, Smaug is a plastic piece the size of my painting station who I will paint scale by scale until he is perfect. This imagination of mine is making me supremely happy at the moment. I don't care about the practicality, I just want a big Smaug who I can paint myself and set up with my other models and stare at all day.

No, Laketown Guard were released - the Master's heavies from DoS. These are the armed survivors of Laketown from BotFA.

Come on: a picture, a picture, my kingdom for a picture!*
A teasing image of the front page is only making it worse, knowing that the photos of a Smaug figure are only just behind it. So close, and yet so far...

*As no actual kingdom is available, the first person to post a picture will instead receive my gratitude, digitally, potentially accompanied by a friendly emoticon.

Just wondering: does this mean we aren't getting the Laketown scenery set? Because I'd have thought this would be the most likely set of releases to have placed it with (Smaug, Bard with Windlance, Laketown Milita etc.)

I mean we could still end up getting it I suppose but I'm just surprised it isn't in this particular list...

Thoughts...?
