I have most of the Hobbit range, I can honestly say the models that are not previously metal and being cast in resin, by that I mean fresh sculpts like Elrond, Gwahier etc. are miles better in quality then recasts.

That is because the new models have the proper molds for resin whereas GW tried to cheap out with the first batch and use the same molds they used for casting metal in. Long story short, the old molds reacted with the resin, deteriorated and voila! Miscasts.

Seems like they have figured that out now. My hobbit FC is the amongst the best I have seen so I'm happy. Would I rather metal? Yes. But hey, dont have the option with that so I'm good with FC.

Makes sense to me. Just tired of people complaining about it, yes it sucked when it first came out, but at least the new stuff is coming out great. And if you do have an issue GW fixes it free and fast usually. The problem is all the new players that have jumped on the Hobbit bandwagon and want stuff from the older range. They're going to continue to have issues with the recasts. I lucked out because I've been with the game from the beginning and already have 99% of what I want from the old range.

I have just put the theory to the test and bought a Yazneg, which is is superbly cast with only two air bubbles not much bigger than a pinhead!

Very cool, thank you! I like the model, maybe not as well as Thror, but it looks pretty good and I'm sure I will pick it up.

Any word on what the other releases are for April?

Again, Thrain has NOT been confirmed as this month. His pic has been out for quite a while already.

Indeed, that is a picture of the Thrain model; but, he is not confirmed to be one of the three releases this month. :)

I'm actually quite excited, despite buying the Erebor Dwarves, Gwaihir and Yazneg a few days ago!

They made brand new molds for finecast using the original sculpts of the models being converted- they didn't use the same metal molds.

The difference comes from the fact that when production started they carried out a 10% quality control check (apparently the standard normally used for metal / plastic) and they were producing it too fast. They moved to a 100% check of everything and better training for the factory staff which has increased the quality a lot.

But it's still not perfect. My Narzug (the only 'fine'cast figure I've gotten) has many small bubbles that are very hard to see right off the hop. The end of his nose was even gone! To make it worse, I'm finding it very hard to tell the difference between the detailing on him, and bubbles, as his clothes are very ratty.

Wow, he seems to fit to my old Lotr dwarfs much better than the impressive but slim and tall Thror 8)

So you should have taken him back and exchanged it for free. Not hassle free, but free. Even with the new sculpts your still going to get a few duds. I've had bad metal models too
