From that picture you can see the tail comes right around the back of the model near to Smaugs head. Hard to tell how much it effects the coolness of the pose yet though. Head looks good!

I am but a poor collegestudent, and as such I probably won't be able to afford it. But who knows. :)

Same here, poor college student as well. But hey "when" I graduate from my program, I'll possibly reward myself for my hard work and that's how I'll justify buying this model, it will be a guilty pleasure. :)

I'm actually surprised nobody has complained that it's just another Bilbo model with a dragon attached. :-)

I think it's a lovely model and more of a collectors piece than a gaming piece.

I'm very happy to see it being released and my money was always on this happening.

I'm disappointed but not surprised it's a resin model. Same goes for the alleged price.

So it's unlikely I’ll afford it unless I can blackmail the boss or something.

If I were to get this, I would put Bilbo on a separate base. I want Smaug by himself.

Is this the White Dwarf that includes the rules supplement, or is that one next week? I almost wouldn't mind getting this one even if it isn't.

Yeah the Gene models Smaug imitation looks very good on closer inspection on their website. Close to $400 and free shipping for now. High quality resin they describe it. Don't know but it looks good except for the tail being all over the place.

Those new leaked pics are much better. I think they show alternate neck/tail angles. Sweet.

Nice pic of Bard there. I think I'll only get that model because the windlance is, admittedly, more plausible that having a normal arrow take down Smaug with a single shot from a longbow in my opinion.

The tail on the Geene dragon is enormous. I've bought it already and am tempted to ask Dave (UKFB) to bend the tail round on itself to shorten the overall piece. No exaggeration this piece is HUGE!

^Would you say the model is the right scale to the GW models? I looked at bases being sold by GW, I don't think large oval base covers it, at least not length wise. As for the tail, because it's resin wouldn't running it under warm water to manipulate it work?

I know you're going to get the GW Smaug as well DMS, so I'll be asking your opinion on comparing the two. ;)

Under Victory, presuming this is the WD magazine, it says spears, bows, swords do no good, it will take a special arrow from an expert shot to take him down.
Well I don't game very much, but if I did I wouldn't be too pleased with a near invincible model in a game though it makes sense because it is Smaug and you have to imagine the points cost for him, but there should be more than one way to slay a dragon. Otherwise it is house rules or you'll be always running the same scenario of him going up against a windlancer.

So the Arkenstone is include on the base of the model, would it be cool if it were replaced with an actual diamond. I mean one is already spending much money on him, why not up the value of it?

Don't stop with the Arkenstone. The treasure should be plated with gold, diamonds, rubies and emeralds.

Hmm, actually want one now. Still couldn't quite justify the price though. At least not on my income.

Hmmm let me think... the fact that this money could buy me...

500+ Historical 28mm hard plastic infantry miniatures
85 high quality 28mm metal miniatures from the likes of crooked dice/heresy/hastlefree
2 Full castle sets from Tabletop workshop
15 28mm sized plastic WW2 tanks

For £300 I could buy the rules, miniatures, terrain, counters and etc for quite a few skirmish games like Deadmans Hand

For £300 I could buy Two fully crewed resin Pirate Ships, with cannon plus the Rules and enough paint to paint it all for Ospreys On the Seven Seas game.

Nice to have for 1/3rd of the price in plastic, but I could never justify spending that amount on one miniature.

Plus, really, what do I do with it? Gaming wise how many "Let's kill Smaug' games am I going to want to play before he begins to gather dust.

Plus it's resin, harder to work with, and don't leave your smaug in the sun!

If you are a killer painter with a lot of spare cash I could see the appeal I suppose. But not for me on every front.

Handbags got multi uses and in last ressort as a weapon, if only Smaug model do be more than just for the shelf :P

I´ve been looking and comparing geene smaug with gw one, gw seems more bulky body wise and ina very dynamic pose, Geene´s Smaug however stays more fielty with the original model as the face its actually better sculpted.

Ill show you

Well, you know what they say, a woman can never have too many bags!

Now, Smaug or a handbag, that would be an interesting dilemma for me....
