One serious advantage of it being resin: given GW's typical costumer service, any small defect will allow you to get a replacement model. Seeing how there's bound to be something wrong with the casting somewhere, I suggest one person on this forum buys it, and then sends the replacement figures to the rest of us. I'm sure the receivers will then happily send a few quid over to refund part of the original purchase.

I do not know about the UK but fraud involving $500 is a felony in the US. I do not know if there is an intent to commit fraud in the UK but you put it in writing.

I'm pretty sure it was a joke...

Well, the cost is about as much as I get in my tax return, little less. So instead of a xbox one this year I will have to go for Smaug. since, xbox is more likely to still be around for years to come and will actually get cheaper the longer I wait, :-D
I held my gift certificate for GW for a whole year now, so I suppose I will be getting something from this months releases but not much until spring.
I am glad to see that 1) there is a Smaug figure and 2) that he fits on a base that is less than 12" which is what I always thought would be the case. Price is high, but I will treat the model with an appreciation that exceeds its price and raises it's personal value.

Should we revisit the "will there be a smaug" thread that is on page 3 of general discussion thread and was last posted in February? I think the debate was pretty solid that there will not be a smaug.

Got to use an airbrush on something that big, then finish the detail by hand.
"Vallejo Air" paints and Tamiya paints are excellent for air brushing

no... best paints for this sort of model, specially with those smooth shading its the aerograph, thats how you gonna get smaug to master paint level combined with fine detail brush inside mouth/teeth, eyes and another other tiny detail.

Getting one or more replacements for genuinely defect models (picture evidence is required) is no fraud, it's Games Workshop's default policy, especially where all things finecast are concerned (and quite rightly so, a premium price should warrant a premium product). The customer is then free to do with those replacements what he or she wants, as far as I'm aware. For example, my first Thranduil figure (with miscast lower robe) may well find himself on top of a mighty stag one day, but could equally well have been given to a friend if I had no use of the model myself.
I suspect that a model of this magnitude would have to be returned in order for it to be replaced of course, and the above was - I hope obviously - intended as a joke rather than a serious scheme. Then again, GW have been known to do strange things: a guy requesting an extra 50mm base for his dismounted White Warg got send a complete Azog ft/mtd pack, and I know of one occasion where an entire second armydeal (big 40k box containing.. well, a decently sized army) was send when a single component of the purchased set was missing.
Just to be sure though:
Don't start or participate in the aforementioned scheme, whether technically legal or not. Doing so will only drive up prices of GW's products even further, and by the Valar don't we all know that that's the last thing we need.

*That being said, if anybody has a spare Smaug somewhere, feel free to send it. Happy to pay for the postage. Even if it means having to sculpt those two extra legs on myself.

I really want two. One to paint to the likeness of the movie, and the other to put in my own colour scheme.

Il probably paint the GW Smaug to match the colour scheme of my dwarves, and then get the knock off to paint movie style.

Yes best to move that conversation out of this thread.

Oh and Galanur - it is still your opinion even if you've formed it from your past experience...

Anyway the new photos are a lot better. Smaug does indeed look excellent! :)
