On the 31 of October new sets are to be released(probably some army sets as we had before)

But i cant say anything more about it, cause i dont know anything else

So what kind of sets will it be?

Probably GW's idea of a great bundle, where they take several items that are already available separately, put them together and then offer you...exactly the same price.

Or ten times more. Hopefully, they'll be releasing models for actual people/s mentioned in the books, but with GW that's rather unlikely.

GW Marketing GENIUS! Yeah, you are likely right.

Hopefully there'll be some SBG stuff. If it's only WotR (which it probably is), I'm gonna be mad.

SB...what? I'm sorry, didn't you hear? That old Lord of The Rings "game" is DEAD. War of The Ring just makes them so much more money.

Fans don't like it? Too bad.

It's poorly written with multiple loopholes, etc? TOO BAD!

:-D

Spoken for truth. Damn GW for killing a perfectly fine game in favour of a halfway attempt at "Oh NOES!1! We must SELLZ more MINIES!!!"

I don't mean to be rude, but frankly there's nowhere for it to go until Oct. 31, is there? None of us knows anything more than the OP does about what kind of Christmas bundles GW will make available.

@Lord Hurin:

For now we can only guess what those new sets might be, most likelly some repackaging of existing models/sets, but who knows. I don't, you don't, but perhaps someone else does and can give us the heads up! Thats what News & Rumours topics are all about, isnt it?

What doesnt make sense is hijack this thread to rant about GW or discuss the health/situation of the two systems. Its not on topic and there are more suitable places to discuss that here in OR.

Ooh sounds good, perhaps some sets in the form of WH batalions?
I hope so!

There have been before, but as Tirno.alyanorno said, the savings were negligible and there was nothing new. Personally, I never bought any either because there was stuff in them that I already had enough of, or because the price tag was simply too high for me to justify. If I can get the same stuff for a few dollars more over a couple of pay periods, it's easier to pay the bills 8)

The only real advantage in the big sets is a reduction in the sundry costs of acquiring the miniatures.

Getting to your local GW costs bus fare, or gas money. Ordering online costs you shipping fees. Get a lot of things at once and you cut that right down. Throw in the few pounds GW sometimes sees fit to cut from the overall cost of the set and you might save 10% of the final total cost. Which is nothing to be sneezed at, but hardly sets the world on fire either.

If I were to indulge in some wild speculation, I do note that the War of the Ring corebook includes pictures of figures that are either out of print or were never in-print. The Warrior of Rohan captain figure (the one with the axe) was only available direct order for a while, and in the now out of production "Muster of Rohan" boxed set. But there he is, complete with a standard bearer, in the WOTR army list. I suspect that we might see "formation sets" or something. One of said formation sets might be a Rohan oathsworn militia set, complete with captain and standard bearer.

If they released a big box of Rohan foot and mounted figures (including said captain and standard bearer) and a big box of dwarves (including the various command sets) I'd probably be very interested.

Maybe.

Aelfwine - i like the idea of a militia set with like the commanders or something.

but a full army? for wotr? that would be big big battalions which would be out of my budget. like the previous harad warhost. £200! i don't think so.

Exactly. Considering the miniscule savings (gas, bus fare, etc are hardly applicable to me anyway since my local GW is in a mall I pass by to and from work.) I'd rather pick up a couple items and still be able to pay the hydro and cell phone bills.

Don't worry, GW's boxed sets are never enough for a fully army. They are sort of like expensive teasers. You buy the box, prepare them and think: I've got most of an army. All I need now is another few hundred points to complete it!

Which costs another god-knows-how-much :D

not sure if youre in the states but these guys have alot of the old sets in stock such as this one:

not the greatest prices, however...

I liked their Wardens of the West Gate Dwarf set and was sad when it was pulled before I could pick one up. There is a big gap in army sets right now with nothing for Dwarves and only the large, over priced sets for some others. It could be very nice to see some sets in the $50 - $75 USD range which bring a little discount and allow some custom army building.

And October 31st has come and gone with no sets. Odd. Leastways, no LOTR sets, which is probably less odd, when one comes to think of it.

GW are not to be trusted... they pay no attention to there LotR range, and then make it less noteworthy by splitting it in two.... We're never going to get good minis any more, are we? I mean, With WarHammer they can just invent things that are way over the top - they are mostly limitied to what's in the books for their LotR ranges, hence the lack of investment.
