I've got no idea on the validity of this particular rumor snippet:

Quote:
The Hobbit release gets completely rescheduled at the moment, so nothing certain to tell. Release is full plastic, characters only available in unit boxes or themed full character boxes.

Plastic heroes?? Hell yes! I'd rather pay a lot for plastic than pay a lot for Finecrap.

GW is capable of making very good plastics, on the Warhammer side at least.

I don't care much for plastic. I will not purchase any more finecast.

It also said 3 books per system per year, I hope that includes LotR/TH.

That's very interesting if true; the original metal LotR releases certainly appealed to "model hobbyists" rather than just wargamers due to their material and quality. I'm sure a lot of those Fellowship of the Ring sales came from people who bought the boxed sets simply to paint them, with no regard for a game associated with the miniatures. Making it in plastic would be great for gamers, and the current boxed set layouts would fit well with The Hobbit. But, I feel plastic models would limit outside interest in purchasing any of the boxed sets. Still, if in Finecast, they would be probably be too expensive to be attractive to either exclusively wargamers or exclusively scale model hobbyists.

not good news  plastic cant be considered collectible and tbh, neither can finecast. if the sculpts are good then i may consider it. Any new troops in plastic are good though, you can never have too many goblins and their associates

It's possible gw were concerned about a large influx of people new to the hobby and how finecast would be received by them. After all it has a bad enough reputation amongst people with years of hobby experience. And as someone that is reluctant to buy finecast ever again and is interested in the painting aspect only this news is probably the best I could have hoped for beyond a return to metal.

I like GW's finecast stuff, so many models are improved by not being Metal. Also Paint comes off metal models really easy and after a few years the metals end up in the bitz box like everything else

People who have seen my hobby always appreciated the metal miniatures over the plastic ones. They think I already pay a lot for tiny metal figutres, I don't want to even mention the cost of the plastics to them. Plastics just seems less valuable.

Your right Jamros in that the hobby garnered a lot of outside interest because of the films when Lotr came out, I wonder how the Hobbit will be received now with todays models and prices. I came into this hobby because of friends and mostly because of being a fan of the Lotr trilogy, I cared nothing for the game systems at first.

I'm not interested in gaming with GW miniatures anymore, though to be completely honest, if they produce one of the models in Finecast in an exceptionally awesome pose, I might make a purchase. Otherwise, I might just get Yarry Lightfeet from Enigma Miniatures for a hobbit fix.

When I was young and first got started with miniatures, I sort of viewed them as the next level up from regular Lord of the Rings toys, as they were essentially plastic toys you could paint yourself, making them more personal. My friend, brother and I would play with our miniatures--but it sure as heck wasn't the Strategy Battle Game. Making the models in plastic won't damage sales from younger Hobbit fans who will have a mindset like I did, but people who might want some models for display will probably not have any interest in 28mm plastics (like me at this age), especially of they only end up as good as the plastic Fellowship.

I'm not sure about the English term: plastic means plastic (12 warrior boxes) or also Finecast plastic? Because, after bad experiences with finecast, I will be happy as a hobbit during breakfast if heroes are available in plastic boxes. Maybe the plastic Fellowship is not as fine as it would be, but GW is capable of doing better plastic, as certain Warhammer heroes proved.

Finecast is resin, not plastic.

The Hobbit not in finecast would be great news. Lets see if its true.

I would prefer good quality plastic minis over metal or 'Finecast'. But this is all speculation folks. PJ's decision to make 3 films instead of 2 could throw a huge spanner in GW's release plans.

I sure it will :!: But unless the release dates for the first film change, I think we will see the first phase release in December. What this does for the release date of the figures for the Battle of Five Armies figures is certainly up in the air. At lest we have something to look forward to other than finecast releases.

I was thinking more about what new sculpts may be required as more Necromancer/Dol Guldor type stuff emerges. It would also make some of the older GW in-house creations redundant (eg those Warhammery Castellans). They will of course exploit the time stretch to squeeze in a price increase or two...
Looking at Dain's dwarves shown in the Hobbit Blog Number 8, I was struck by the vague similarity to the Uruk-hai. It is as if Saruman had seen the dwarven heavy armour and filed that information away for a rainy day... hmmmm.

Form follows function. I liked the boar spears.
