Here is the White Dwarf daily forum that shows new releases for the Hobbit SBG
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/b ... id=8400052
It includes new Gandalf, Bilbo and Gollum sculpts as well as Thrain, a Captain of Erebor and a Captain of Dale :D
And as ever they are extremely expensive $35 for Thrain alone :x

You're a little late, we already have a thread for this month's releases.

At $35 for Thrain that's crazy. Makes me feel a bit better in that hes only $20 US dollars here

You can really tell the difference between the poor, blocky Gandalf-Bilbo-Gollum and the brilliant, Perry Brothers Thrain-Dale-Erebor. I mean REALLY.

Actually, I thought I read somewhere that Alan Perry did Gollum...

Edit: Gaku Matsubayashi did Erebor Capt and Dale Capt (says so on GW Daily) and I believe Thrain and Gollum were Alan Perry. Gandalf and Bilbo were someone else, check new WD for exact details (or the original April Release Thread, someone wrote it there)

Edit edit: (Originally by Dr. Grant):

Quote:
Oh, and a few interesting tidbits about the scupltors, the almost universally well received Thrain is by Alan Perry (makes sense), the similarly well recieved Dale and Erebor captains are by Gaku Matsubayashi (not sure if he's new but he's one to watch in my opnion, he's got a really great eye for dynamic poses within the more grounded LOTR world), the divisive Bilbo and Gandalf are by Israel Laborda and the almost universally disliked Gollum is by...Alan Perry! I was really surpirsed by this, doesn't look like his work at all and it certainly doesn't resemble the other 4 Gollums I can think of.

I really hate the Gandalf O_O Thrain on the other part looks amazing! Also a bit disappointed with the Erebor captain. I would like another face on that Dale captain as well...

We know the April releases already but to those that bought the new WD is there anything worth while in it? Anything that isn't just an advertisement, you know actual hobby related material?

April WD is a dead loss (again) if you ask me. Nice glossy pictures but nothing of substance unless you're a 40k fanboy. Even 'Warhammer Fantasy' doesn't get much of a look in these days. The best bit is that they've got a short piece where all the old editors of WD get to say a bit about their time at the helm - including his holiness Ian Livingstone himself. But you can read that in the aisle of your local supermarket before putting it back on the shelf. Not worth paying for IMHO and I'm cancelling my subscription going forwards. Not a protest - just reinvesting my money more appropriately.

You mean there's nothing special about the 400th issue? I'm disappointed, I still remember fondly the massive issue of WD released as issue 300, with a huge Charge of the Rohirrim battle.

I think the interview with former editors was the special 400th edition thing. It might be a bit fatter this month too but looks like mostly 40k stuff to me.

Compared to the massive #300 issue, this is nothing.
How much more pages does it have? 5?
I wanted to get a subscription this year, but it seems like it is not worth my money.

WD400 doen't contain any LotR/The Hobbit content except the pages introducing the New Releases out of the 168 pages the issue has, where as WD300, back in the day where LotR was a 'popular" game, has46 pages of LotR content out it's 208 pages... Those were the days :)

ANd to top it off my face in 2 of those 46 pages. I actually used to complain about the quality of the content back in those days but at least there was content. THis isnt even a LotR:Hobbit related issue. I would say the current WD's have no tangable content whatsoever.

Sure they do: WD has become a 150ish page catalog for the current month's releases. Argue all you want, it IS content. Whether it's worthwile content, or worth the price of admission, is an entirely different matter.

Plenty of opportunity to vary the content. Articles on recently released codexes/army books (background, tactica, army showcase etc.) come to mind.

Sorry for going off-topic.

What happened to the other thread discussing the April releases, and why has this one taken over?

Good question. Maybe a mod should just close this one?
