So, I just got through watching it. The last time I'll get to see Middle-earth on the big screen. Anyhow, the spoiler part:

1. BOMBUR GOT HIS ONE AND ONLY LINE! Pretty funny part. Bifur also got a line in the common tongue, but I couldn't quite make it out.
2. Legolas only got an extra 15 seconds or so, same with Alfrid, although Alfrid got eaten.
3. BEORN still had less than a minute of screen time, but he at least got some extra.
4. Dain's coronation and Thorin's funeral were pretty short, but good.
5. The goats were basically completely wasted. The elves killed most of them, but the ballista that the dwarves had were pretty cool. Yes, some of the elves got killed by the dwarves and vise versa. And the scene with the chariot on the ice is what earned this an R rating, it had almost as much blood as the movie 300.
6. Dol Guldur and Bolg's original design got a really good scene. Only a slight amount more of Sir Christopher Lee.
7. There was a great exchange between Bofur and Bilbo when Bilbo snuck out.

There were a few others spread throughout, but they were usually pretty short and not too important. Overall a pretty decent improvement over the theatrical edition, but it's 15 minutes short of the advertised 3 hours.

hm.. In interviews and the chronicles book, they spoke about Gandalf vision, In which Smaug would form an alliance with sauron. They said it would/could be in the extended scenes. I have seen beatifull artwork depicting smaug with vast armies of orcs and trolls....question : is it in the extended edition (i fear it isn't) :o

I'll get it anyway. BoFA was a bit of a disappointment for me in some ways. At times it felt too stretched out and slapstick.

Don't get me wrong, it was a huge improvement, I'm just not a fan of a doubly peglegged troll. I was ok with his flails for hands, but the legs were dumb.

I don't think it's outnin the UK yet, at least on iTunes, and please don't suggest torrenting or any illegal method of viewing it. It comes out on DVD next week.

Having watched the EE yesterday, I must say it's fantastic, the 20 minutes might not seem like a huge amount to add compared to the LotR EEs, but it really does go a long way. The added scenes are excellent (particularly Bofur and Bilbo's scene before he goes over the wall, the fighting between the Dwarves and the Elves and Thorin/Kili/Fili's funeral) but the real improvement for me came in the odd shots added here and there that only last 20-30 seconds or even less but just made the whole thing seem so much more polished.

The DoS EE took the film from average to very good, the BotFA EE takes it from excellent to just stunning. Go. Buy it. Watch it. Now.
