Nice diorama Brian, I especially like how you managed to make this look great with a "lousy" "cheap" toy.
The mini's are of course as always a pleasure to the eyes mate!

Nice work again! Keep 'em coming!

 Isc.

Fantastic as usual. The fact that you got the toy for about 2.50 if I recall correctly makes it even better. Lookin forward to part 2

As always your scenes are just stunning.

When I first checked it out I thought it was going to be just the bridge and Gandalf, when I got further down and saw the whole fellowship gathered......

And the small conversion of Boromir.. masterful.

Each one just gets better and better.
If you keep up like this you will get to the stage where you could never make a piece better than the one you have just finished.

Perfection must be almost there!

Great work, and it's a good way to show that GW is not the only source for modelling materials. Immediately after reading the article, I had a look on ebay for similar toys to convert. Anybody with experience got any suggestions for things that could be used? The big Helm's Deep playset for example (which I found for £12 on ebay and I might buy it).

Cheers

To answer your question, I think you might find that Helms Deep to more of an accurate scale than the games workshop version. The gate may be a tad too big, but the walls in my oppinion are a much better scale than the GW one.

And at £12...you cant go wrong in MHO !

Too late, I missed that auction, but found the same item, still in the box for £1.20, ending tonight, so I might just bid on that.

seemingly nothing. You have done this 8) :D

As usual your attention to detail shine through in the article.

Oustanding piece of work, Brian! Unreal painting and great detail. I find it so hard to finally make a decent diorama, but you seem to do it with ease. Wish I had your talent for it.

I have now actually manged to pick up both a GW HelmsDeep and a 'toy' one metioned above.
I take back my previous ststement. The walls of the toy are the 'only' thing in scale, everything else is 'way' out of scale...not a good buy !!!
I actually only bought it in the hope I could use the 'hammerhand' statues that come with in, but again, these are way too big !
