So ove never really seen the need for sealing my models until recently. I came across the need when plying a game, and someone pointed out I should use sealant as the paint got chipped. I'm no expert on sealant (as you could probably guess) so if you could do a little summary of what they do/ their properties or just point me to the best sealant available.

I do want a glossy coat on my models. I want to retain as much of the colour of the paint job I can. So if there's a suitable sealant, point me right to it!

Well your absolute best sealant for making sure a drop will never hurt your models would be to encompass them in about a pound of cement (obviously there are aesthetic drawbacks but protection comes at a price).
For myself I just use whatever I can pick up from my craft store that is rated for outside as your models are unlikely to sustain greater abuse than that

I use vallejo matte varnish. Seems to work nicely... does a good job of making the paint job nice and matte and even.

Useful information - I am contemplating a complete switchover to Vallejo paints so I might as well go the whole hog and get the sealant as well.

i have used a bit of Vallejo Satin recently on some figures, ELfs work better with a slight sheen and orcs with matt, airbrushed on for better results
