EDIT: Initially posted this topic in the wrong forum. Fixed now.

I've just started work on a new Morannon/Morgul themed army and run into a bit of trouble with the paint scheme.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to paint their armour.

I've tried Black with Boltgun metal outline and Black + Boltgun with Boltgun Metal edges but none of it seems to come out the way I intend it. I'm an average painter at best, but even I should be able to grab the simple concept of armour!

Anywho, here's some of my progress below. The Troll armour actually worked alright because the a Black Washes I applied didn't pool and gave the armour a suitably darker hue.

Is there a method for getting my Orcs' armour to look like the stuff on the boxes and GW site?

Sorry about the tragic lighting.

What works really well for me is to paint the armor Leadbelcher, wash with Agrax Earthshade, Lightly wash the cracks between plates with Nuln oil, then outline with Leadbelcher/ a few streaks here and there. Highlight the sharpest edges with Ironbreaker if you want.

Paint the cloth shirt with Rhinox Hide, then Doombull Brown, then highlight with Mephiston Red.

Straps and pants are Abbadon Black with Stormvermin fur highlights and Nuln Oil wash.

Skin is just like any orc skin - it varies...

That should be enough to get you heading in the direction you want.

Sweet, I still have a few models left - so I'll try that.
