This time it is the Biege Wizard who dares take on the King: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/06/b ... or-vs.html The guidelines worked well. Actually wanting to take Captains? What next? Ultrageek, I've even put in the lists |

Sappers can be boom or bust. Its really disheartening when you loose a formation first turn. Nice storytelling once again but The Beige Wizard had severly bad luck. It does make you want to start taking banners and captains when the rolls are not going your way. So did the Osgiliath Veterans have Cirion (renamed albeit)? That was quite abit of ranged. |

Yes the vets get the Lieutenant as a 3 might hero. I dislke bow in WOTR but my current thing is to make sure there is a mix of unit types, even some legendaries. The shooting was not super-effective (nothing like xbows) but then Rangers sit well in a ruin/wood (and can even fend off a couple of charges that way) and Osgiliath Vets have might to resist spells, are immune to terror while the hero lives, and are pretty tough troops. They cost just slightly less than their number on WOMT + their number again in Archers, with captain do their job well enough. As you say though, EVERY marginal case went my way. I just managed to explode the sappers, the Vets just won the combat with the Ferals and Uruks, I just managed to undisorder my troops while Jason's guys wouldn't do the same, then he maanged to fail the charge. I think that, were it me, I'd have put Saruman into the Orcs when it clearly mattered so much to the battle. His might and R3 should have saved him vs an ES duel but then that is swapping one risk for another. I think key formations like that will have likely have a banner next time, since he can use Overlord to allow heroic actions. |
