Rules would be valuable too, if you want to compare the in-game balance...

Could you try to get the quote brackets around your quotes by the way? Reads a lot easier, at it often isn't clear to me where your posts actually start (until I remember having read that part before).

As for figures I'd like to see, it's mostly rules really. Granted, not all models are easily converted, but at least that is a possibility - no tournament will accept houserules though! Army of the Dead captains indeed, or Woses for example. Simply ridiculous that I could get Bandobras Took to lead a warband of Woses, yet cannot take a rather more fitting Wose chieftain to do the same. Indeed, an additional hero or two and couple of extra troop types could so easily make for several full-fledged armies. But such expansions are not happening any time soon of course. Nor later.
At least some upgrades for captains would be nice then, so that a Dwarf captain could actually lead his Rangers through rocky terrain.

But the models I'd most like to see? All the discontinued ones, available again...

I think primarily I just want a Smaug. There are always things that I wish GW would make, a ranger clothed Aragorn with Anduril for example, but for the most part Smaug feels like the most blatant hole in the range.

Yes it seems rather ridiculous but, the terrible shame is that the range is doing very badly!

Not that badly finecast troops aside. The models are some of the best we've ever had, IMO.

I agree with you on that one! The Hobbit range, in my opinion, has been amongst the best GW has produced.

The Sons of Feanor!

Ungoliant.

Huan.

Most of all though, I'd like to see the arms and armour of the Falathrin, the elves of Cirdan.

I heard third hand that a GW Smaug model has been made but was rejected by the film company as they maintained that it mus be to scale with the rest of the miniatures. This would mean that it would be about three foot long and impossible to game with. Has anyone else heard this?

I have heard this from more than one source. Seems a likely scenario and no side is willing to compromise.

I suspect that GW are not the only people with dragon issues. I have the David Falconer book on how Smaug was created for the movie and the change to 2 legs/wings with 'hands' was very late on - in fact, Smaug in AUJ had 4 legs.
Anyway, there is a possibility that the rights owners have an embargo on all of them issuing any Smaug models/kits/toys until Film 3 comes out, as I searched the olde Worlde Wide Webbe and found nowt even in the line of toys (someone else may discover something - let us know). It just feels to me like the door has been shut on this one for a while so we do not even have a large action figure as a proxy.
Drat.

I suspect that the light your additional information shines on a larger picture!

from what i've heard from the gw people, they suspect that there is no smaug yet because of a very late change in design. gw may have created a smaug, but then pj decided on a new look so the entire thing had to be scrapped. i suspect it'll be one of the very first miniatures to be released just before film 3 is released.

they can't actually be serious! if it was to scale it would probably be AT LEAST around 5 ft long! think about it, bilbo was just a bit larger than smaug's eye. if you have a hobbit mini, you can just about imagine the scale of smaug. hell, his head might be just under 1 ft long. they'd have to scale him down considerably.

If scale was that big an issue surely we would've seen a bigger Azog? The scene at weathertop in AUJ has Azog at least one third bigger than any orcs there factoring in their crouching. In my opinion he needs to be much bulkier and the same height as the Beorn in man form figure if not slightly bigger!
