Been terrain modelling for a few months now, on my first hobby knife, and still going strong. But the hobby knife had already been used non-frequently for a couple of years... idk if that counts...

I have 4 hobby knives that I use all the time. Two are identical small xacto-style knives, but one always has a super-sharp new blade in it and the other has an old blade that I use for scraping off flash and mould lines. One knife is a heavy-duty xacto that I use for deep cuts and also scoring mortar joints into stonework, and the other knife is an Olfa knife with a very small blade in it that I use for cutting curves in card or balsa.

All of my knives are decent quality and have lasted me over 5 years, but I regularly replace the blades in them of course.

I'm maybe on my 3rd knife in about 20 years. Couldn't tell you how many blades I've been through though...

Well, same here. i don't know how many blades i used so far... but since they are cheap there's no problem with it. those Xacto knives are blessing, for sure they are accurate and easy to manouver

I started building plastic kits 35 years ago... and have been through a variety of craft knives since then. I have about 15 handles and probably 70-80 blades at present, some of which I am afraid to use as they are rather weird shapes...
I have found that some of the cheap sets have flimsy handles and blades which could prove dangerous, especially when working with metal minis, so I prefer to pay a bit extra for quality and safety. Needle files, plastic cutters and metal cutters come in useful too.

5 years in the hobby ?

I have gone through zero knives, as I am still using the first one I ever bought !

However...

I have gone through, 6729 blades  (or it certainly feels that way).

11 years in the hobby for me :D

Modeling knives: 0, none, I stick to GW clippers and I'm on my third pair, the spring broke on the first and second pair although I still use the second pair to cut paper clips for pinning models. I also use files now and then 8)

10 years in the hobby, on my second craft knife. Well, to be fair, I used other stuff earlier, some small kitchen knives for a long time.

I picked up again a few months ago after a couple years break, and grabbed one of my dad's old craft knives. Broke the blade last week (was one of these things with scores in it to break of when it gets dull), and since I didn't have any spare blades and the handle was Devlan Mud, I went and got the GW hobby knife. It's freaking fantastic in comparison, lovely grip on the handle, and nice pointy blade.

Ok, that sounded like some crappy commercial for the GW knife, but it's acctualy the only GW tool I use.

4 years, own 2 knives (1 xacto knife and 1 designed for cutting foamboard)...no need for any other knives, but lose a blade now again again...think I might be approaching Brian's 6729 blades though, well a thousand or two off that anyway. :)

I've been in this hobby since autumn -08, and I bought one then, and I'm still using it.
