Games Workshop has made numerous mistakes (such as remodelling or pricing) however there is a huge mistake in relation to the release of the Hobbit. This is because some figures such as radagast the brown or thranduil have been released already, so if within 'the Hobbit' they look differently Games Workshop will have to either rename them or discontinue them.

yeah but what happens to all of the old models that are completely wrong (for exaple radagast is completely different). Do they discontinue them or change the names.
-Hope they bring out loads of new palstic sets to allow new armies to be built instead of a few metal ones like they did with lotr

Faramir has a complete different model.
Don't worry the old ones will the be use-able if there will be a release based on the hobbit. (or another game system...)

There's a good chance that the Hobbit film may have the characters looking fairly similar- GW has to check everything they make with the Tolkien estate and newline.

In terms of equipment GW's stuff has been very similar to the characters as put out in the movies (compare Thranduil's and Legolas' quiver, for example), so the old ones shouldn't be a problem for using, though I do imagine they will be discontinued in favor of new poses with the release of the Hobbit.

Who cares if they will look different! I am not that obsessive about appearances. I just want miniatures to play with and have fun.

Mmm. I, for one, do rather care if they look different- it gives me another excuse (not that I need one) to expand the glorious armies of Mirkwood. Also, because I have a bit of a soft spot for Thranduil, I may have to pick up a different one rather than the one that I have.

GW do have a literary license too, guys. Its why we have models not yet or never to be seen in the movies. The first proof of this was tom bombadil, then Glorfindel, etc.

Just because you see radagast looking different in the movie does not suddenly invalidate or that GW will stop selling a particular model just for that reason.

There is no crisis here.

Agreed, did Shagrat War Leader and Faramir Captain of Ithilien not have existing models based on their film renditions, and yet have alternative models made to be sold alongside?

@Valamir, I disagree with you on Thranduil, I do not think he looks like he would fit into the LotR film at all, in fact he looks like Heman (spellling unsure), master of the [universe?], more like an archaetypal chessy sword sorcery fantasy and not LotR at all.

Ha, Thranduil should be able to fit. It's not that you can usually look at a mini (unpainted) and say exactly who it is. If you paint him correctly, you could most likely make him look like he will in the film.

Thranduil always looks Heman-ish, even the best painted, in fact more so becaues you can see the detail better.

@Gothmog- In which case, you most likely wouldn't like what I've done with mine. ;)

No need to show any pictures then.

I don't really have a good flesh color, so I had to mix my own. So my Thranduil's skin is actually the same color as He-Man's. It's pretty funny.

Just great. :(

Oh dear. That sounds much more unpleasant than mine- which was a simple conversion job with a completely different color scheme.

Gothmog, it really is GW's painting sheme that's the problem with Thranduil. I hated him too, but my brother got him and painted him up well, and he just fits.

Do you have a pic as evidence?

Alright, merely because I'm curious to see what you'll think, I'll figure out how to post pictures and post mine soon. :)

As a note, I shall include it with several little conversion pieces I have done lately (because I feel like showing off- there's my huge humility getting the better of me again), which will be suitably diverse. :) So keep a vigilant watch, Gothmog, for Thranduil will be in that lot. :)
