Post subject:  What is your oppion on Saruon in Lotr
Well yesterday i brought Saruon for lotr and i played a few games with him by himself. The first game i used him was a 500 point game my friend used Saruon the necromancer and 4 Castellans of Dol Guldur and a shaymin of Dol Guldur. The game was really quick took about 20 minutes to finish and i was really impressed with Saruon he killed all the Castellans of Dol Guldur and The necromancer and it was really easy. The second game i played was against a 500 point army of minas tirith he used boromir and faramir with men, Saruon wiped them all out kill 5+ men in each fight stage.

I cant wait to use him for my 1500 point army though excited to see how he does. My 1500 point army is Saruon with The nine(The named versions) with some of the on fell beast which i cant wait to see how that goes! :D :-D

So overall i am very impressed with Saruon with his abilities and stats and he will probably from now on be my 500 point army. So what your opinion on him, Do you like him? what do you find wrong with him? blah blah blah

Aye, that is weord, Sauron has clobbered his future self, not a good idea.

One thing I will say is that the Necromance is rreally overcosted, and the Shaman is pointlss without Orcs, so you had a major advantage in that battle. In the second battle, the fight looked more evenly mathed, though Sauron is generally a good piece.

In larger battle, oppponants defeat Sauron by ignoring him cpompletely and taking out the rest of the army.

The problem with saruon and other huge units like him is that it takes them ages to make up their points cost. Lets say that Sauron is going to charge warriors of minas tirith, and lets assume that they fail their terror test so are fight 0. Also say that sauron has used his 2 free epic actions to call strike and strength. This means he he gets 20 attacks (lets say he got unstoppable charge then +3 attacks). He needs 3's to hit so will kill 13.33 men per turn. Multiply this by the 8 turn length of a standard WOTR game and he kills 13.33 companies of WOMT. This is equal to 333.33 points (I would assume that hero's would run away from sauron).

This shows that even if every turn sauron gets an unstoppable charge, then gets +3 attacks, and his opponent fails his terror test he still cannot kill his points worth of units. If he is fighting WOMT he would need to make 20 kills per turn, every turn to make up his points value in kills.

@johnny189, this is SBG not WotR, Sauron doesn't have Epic Actions and Terror doesn't make you Fight 0 in SBG.

I wouldnt really say the shaymin is pointless because the shaymin get the spell i think called wither which would have made saruon strength 1 for the reset of the game which means i would need 6/6 on necromancer and 6/4

The reason to take a Shaman, even a Dol Guldor one, is always for Fury, you jusy pay 5pts for the added boon. Though it would be more use against a single model army than a normal Shaman.

Sauron is great, but you'll find that your opponent will just feed him a single unit whenever they get priority, meaning that it's hard for him (or something like the Balrog) to be worth taking at high levels. However, he does come with Chill Soul, so make sure that you target stuff like Banners or heros or their horses with it to get some point back fast. Even targeting heros directly is good, but the ones with higher Will values will be hard to knock off.

I thought you had to have atleast 3 models in an army, or is that out the window. Also in Sauron vs necromancer normal sauron loses because he has the ring and the necromancer can kill him for wearing it.

The rule for the Necromancer is when a hero puts the Ring on, they die, but Sauron already had the Ring on, so I think he'd be exempt.
