Post subject:  Easterling boxset only 2 spearmen??????
Why does the easterling box set only have two spearmen?

It only has 10 in a box as well. Why not 4 spearmen like every other standard box set? How can people build proper functioning armies with such imbalanced troop types? AND it's the same price as a set of 12 warriors. The fact that you only ever see easterlings with spears in the movies just makes it worse.

Not enough room on the sprue for 12 figures basically. I'd have preferred less archers like the mordor orc sprue personally (only two), and have another two pikemen instead but that's the way it is. No point moaning about it. That can only lead to a locked or deleted thread. You can always convert the swordsmen/archers into pikemen. :)

It's to get you to purchase more, Easterlings are the best spearmen in the game, so if you're gonna play them you will want more spears. Their old sprue came as 6, 3, and 3 I believe, but that was a LONG time ago lol

There never was an old sprue, just the 4/2/4 one still available today.
Luckily, some brass rod, a drill, knife and glue can easily make those swords into decent spears:

Thanks for your answers lads. I reckon there is enough space on that sprue. It's all spaced out.
But I will not moan about it any longer.

Back when they still sold boxes of 24 I sort of went crazy...now I have more Easterling swordsmen than I care to think about.

Converting swordsmen to spearmen is pretty easy.
I bought 3 of the old box sets a long time ago and I have more spearmen then swordsmen now :)

Part of that though is the fact that the sprues were produced around 2005/06 (iirc) - they didn't have the technology to get components as close together as they can today. It's a product of its time. :)

I personally felt that it was intentional to force you to buy a ridiculous amount of figures which you would not use, which really annoyed me at the time. I would have bought several boxes of this set on its original release day if it had a half sensible ratio of pikemen of at least 8 rather than a paltry 4! Most players are going to want to field formations of 1 archer or more usually warrior with shield backed up by two pikemen, and I would have been open to conversion options even at Forge world prices to amend the miss balance!
