I would like to hear what folks think on the matter. There are plenty of profiles in LOTR we overlook simply because they don't fit an army we are building at the moment. For me, it was Celeborn. I never gave him much thought because I prefer Galadriel for casting abilities and waraspect (I love the war aspect!)

Anyways, Celeborn, What a piece! for 150 pts you get a superb elf warrior, and a few spells like immobilise (for those tough baddies) and Aura of command for a broken force. He has terror. Terror! just because he can. Heavy armor, shield, elf sword, 3's in his most important stats (W, A, M, W, F) and a sky high 6 for F! How did I overlook this guy for the last 4 years? Oh, and he can boost *both* your Galadhrim warriors and knights to a crg 6! (he himself having a CRG 7. 7! He only fails his crg checks on a snake eyes. That is a 1/36 chance of failure).

This got me thinking, who else are we overlooking? Which profile surprised you? Another good example would be arathorn. He is a great budget hero. Mostly because he is one of the few pieces with 3A and a cheap price. Go budget heroes!

Let me know how he fairs! I'm excited to know how he fights.

Celeborn is great but he only has the 3 Will for spells which is a shame and with combat Glorfindel on a horse for the same points will do a heck of a lot more damage.

OR for the same points two of my favourite underrated heroes in Erestor and Arwen (mounted). A cheaky fight 6 elf on a horse with Natures wrath is a surprisingly good combination. Erestor just never dies D7 Fate3 for 80 points and he re rolls to failed to wound rolls, SO GOOD.

Another surprise package is Lindir, he gives you 4inchs of Magical resistence and free will to elrond. Is a solid support hero.

I love erestor. A good guy hasharin (stat wise). Arwen though? That surprises me. Honestly, I've never used her but its good to know she's usable

Only use her in combat against regular troops or against captains (her fight value is a huge asset here) if you have some support from troops.

I've never doubted Celeborn. His magic is limited but effective when used properly. I do think he's slightly over-costed, but only slightly.

For myself I find my opponents underestimating the Mahud King quite often. I understand it's because he's often paired with Suladan or the Golden King but still a Mahud King mounted with lance is nothing to ignore

I would go with forlong the fat!!! He is an absolute beast for his points and if you take him mounted(horse or mumak :P ) + his strength he is crushing skulls. Also his might and wounds are very good.
Not a single time this beast has let me down :D

Gil-Galad is sooooo underrated. The best hero for his points in the game, IMO, but idk, Elendil is very good too. Free heroic combats? F and D7? AWMW all 3s? Yes please. Here is a hero who is just like Gil-Galad, but doesn't need to burn all his might on heroic combats to get to the enemy leader/objectives.

On a separate note, can Narsil be used as a 2hw?

Elendil is great! Most of those 2nd age guys are stellar! A time of mightier men. As far as narsil goes, it is my understanding that unless otherwise stated, melee weapons default to reg. hand weapons.

I don't know of anyone who underestimates Gil-galad lol

Halbarad with Arwen's Banner.

A 6" range banner that allows models to automatically pass Courage tests is quite a strong defensive buff to Warriors of Arnor. Combine him with Malbeth (6" range special rule that saves wounds on a 5+) and you can make quite a strong and durable shield wall or testudo like formation.

Captains of Arnor are necessary though for offensive punch as the Warriors will struggle as they need 6's to wound most things.

That is a really good combo. I've never thought of that. I always dismissed the warriors of arnor. Not the heroes, cause I think the heroes are super cool, but the warriors i thought were lackluster. However, if you bulk them up with marbeth and halbarad, one could make a fine army.

I say it all the time....Hunter Orcs, period.

YES, their D is a god awful but they all have two attacks for less than 9 points.

Ive wrapped around shield spear and pike walls of Dwarves, Isengard and other units time and time again and absolutely decimated them with the same number of Hunters.......They are so cheap, and so strong offensively.

In addition to making them tough, you tactically, if you want, can out manuever any foot army in the game, and keep up with most cavalry ones. Why?

First, unlike regular orcs, they have 6 inch movement.

Second, their heros on foot all cost less than 55 points, and their regular captains are less than 50.

Their named heros all have 3 might.

In a 750 pt army, I can bring 13 might to the table. How many armies besides including Aragorn or Boromir can say that?

If only you could pair this army with Alfrid, the gods of Hobbit SBG would look upon the hunter orcs with disdain for being so near to them in prestige.

Their base units, and army as a whole is devastating. You can also take banners! Models that are less than 9 points with 3 attack rolls every turn??? Not many lost fights from these guys....
