just watched the 2 towers never gets old! but noticed when legolas shoots the beserker with the flaming brand at helms deep his arrow fletches are yellow however the arrows that hit it are white like the haldir's elves? bit odd.

Like I said: continuity error Quite a blatant one from their point of view as well, since no other elf listens to Aragorn at that point (and only that point) for some reason, lol.

Maybe he was using arrows from somewhere other than his quiver? Also, in the books he has to refil his quiver several times; maybe he refilled it with white fletched arrows?

Why would you bother dyeing the fletches anyways?

seems a bit of a waste. though some arrows they reuse and the elves are into there art and stuff like their shields in the shape of leaves.

General Elessar: you see him take them from his own quiver He dyes the fletching because he is 1) A prince, 2) a protagonist, 3) possibly wants to know which he killed? Lol

Maybe Legolas actually missed (for once) and another Elf heard Aragorn and hit the Berserker?

I'm sticking with my theory. Maybe he forgot to comb his hair and it got in his eyes, which would explain why he missed.

Ah, my mistake. Still, saying "Bring it down" would be heard by the elves next to him and he'd only say it if it was important when they're in melee....

The Weapons of LOTR said that his arrows were fletched from yellow feathered birds. So must have been a personal quirk. I hate those *&^%*^&% canaries!!!!

hmmmm. the nocks on legolas' arrows look suspiciously plastic...

my theory for the original question is thus:
legolas and another elfs arrow collided in mid air. the elfs arrows skimmed along legolas' arrow, cutting the string binding and causing the fletches to fall off. three uruk hai crossbowmen then shot their bows, and cut all three of the elfs arrows fletches off the arrow. These fell onto legolas' featherless arrow, followed by the binding thread cut off a split second earlier. because of the spinning motion of the arrow, the string wound around the feathers again, tying them on. there was then a sudden gust of wind which made the string tie itself into a conveniant double knot, securing the feathers in place.

In this way, legolas shot his own arrow, but it ended up with the feathers from a generic elf's arrow. It is entirely possible that process could have been repeated several times. The loss of momentum from the friction between the two arrows was probably why the berzerker needed multiple hits to die.

well could happen i suppose they are elves. But the arrows didn't kill the berserker as its actually a dwarf jealous of gimli's friendship with legolas and the arrows got stuck in the prosthetics!
