Just noticed this topic. Now my novel can be found in thousands of places. Sometimes a page or ten written down on paper, then another page or ten in a word doc. I ticked 'finished but not published', but I'm sure that when I now try to gather it, I'll change hundreds of things in the story. Happend before.
Now there are some questions I'd like to ask my fellow OR novelists.
1) Where and when do you get 'inspired' to write some pages for your novel ? Or do you just sit down and say: "Now I gonna wright something down!"
2) Is it visible you were inspired by lotr (I think we all were) ?
3) What was your main idea / character ?
4) What races does it include (uruks/wargs/halflings ?!)

No, I'm not some sort of intervieuwer who's gonna make money with this when you've published your books! :-)

My novel is about 3 seperate worlds or dimensions. Lungard, Vengard and Ontagard. That is as far as I am willing to divulge as the enemies have many spies.....I wriet when I can. I have been writing it and rewriting it for nearly 11 years before i had read tolkien. I suppose my main influences are Norse mythology and Icelandic Sagas, the writings of William Blake, H G Wells as well as Tolkien. I would say that Beowulf is also an influence as well as Saxon Poetry. To use the forms...
1) I get nostalgic and think of the past and use past episodes in my life in my writings. It may be abstract ideas to memories and I am deeply inspired by dreams and tend to inhabit my own dream world hence my interest in worlds within a world. I can look at something, for instance a bridge, and get inspired but I have a terrible visual memory and find it hard to visualise things. I write every day even if it is only a line or two. I keep many notebooks and jot ideas as quick as they come and flesh them out later
2) Who isnt? I do, however, tend to lose the influence and have abandoned entire sectios for being to Tolkienish. However, read any of the Icelandic sagas and you see where Tolkien was inspired. I have kept Tolkien's sense of place that also occurs in HG Wells writing
3) My novel is set in two different eras (well they are 2 different novels). The first is Goldhelm, a female warrior who is of mixed morals, her passive brother Thaddeus, Morcris Strongarm and the shady Dagleth. In the second, Morcrison (son of Morcris, also called Thallanar), Thaddeus, Hrama (pronounced thra-ma), Hrethnor (pronounced threthnur) and an elderly Dagleth. The idea is the end of the world and my love of the moon. I was very inspired by Cormack Mcarthy's 'The Road'.
4) Races include Goblins, Half Goblins, Nocturnilas, Wulca (wolf men, more beserker than werewolf!!), faerie, Troll, Hobs and The three great wyrms and the lesser wyrms

Nick any of my ideas and I will get angry :!: :!:

I have a rough idea for a book/story, im just gonna give you a lil synopsis of my general idea so far.

Its about this group of wizards who have the ability to control the world around them rather than throw fireballs etc. The story focuses on 3 wizards who were sent to the world at the beginning of time: one is your typical bloke who wanders round the countryside achieving very little besides supporting the various hamlets scattered throughout the world, one is the wizard of civilization, and one is the wizard of the sea, who died many years ago but his soul still controls the flow of the sea (he drowned the second he arrived in the world)

The wizard of civilization (called Saren) has absolute power over Whitehaven, which is the main city of the land. Saren has served as the steward of every king whom has sat on the throne of Whitehaven, and has maintained the city in a state of utopia for thousands of years. The "typical" wizard, called Woodhelm has very little power compared to the other two, he is merely a "conjurer of cheap tricks" , his greatest (and only) "spell" is calling a strong breeze and he is often bitter about his lack of power.

The story goes that Whitehaven has been subject to many pirate raids recently, the king ignores the problem, he has never known anything but pure peace and doesn't expect some pirates to disrupt it, but Saren is sure that the pirate problem will lead to a much greater trail of events, however the king ignores Saren's requests to investigate. Saren then summons Woodhelm to ask a favor of him, Saren explains that pirates should not be able to attack woodhelm, the wizard of the sea would surely not allow pirates to attack whitehaven so easily and suspects that the power of the sea wizard has been disrupted in some foul manner.

After this point the plot follows the story of Woodhelms party investigating the disappearance of the sea wizard. However it is soon revealed that the spirit of the sea wizard was devoured by a necromancer a few months ago. The necromancer told pirates that the sea wizards spirit was no more and they could pillage and raid the coast freely without punishment. The necromancer then used his newfound control of the sea to bring every ship he could find into his lair, where he killed every man, woman or child he could find, and used their flesh to create an army of "half orcs".

That's kinda the basic idea, what do you guys think?

I think that the name Wralock did come from warlock, but I'm not entirely sure as it just came to me, but I think I was going for anagrams, so you're probably right.

Have to say: I went to Iceland last year and was Inspired myself (by both mythology and nature). The Scrimners (giant, evil bird-like creatures who master a certain level of dark sorcerery) by example are based on someting I heard some people talking about in Iceland. Forgot about what exactly, but I was immediately inspired so I just wrote my own version of it.
