I would say that bad experience can often shape a dramatic character, but some are worse than others.

I would love to (but not in a strange SMM sort of way) I kill of to many characters for them to see through the series that long, annd then bring some of them back again.

Ah at least you don't have many wizards who appear almost on every part of the story :P

Several of my wizards (who don't appear as often as yours I guess) die twice.

I only have the identities of 5 of my 7 wizards, not sure what I should do with the last 2.

Hey guys, interesting thread you got going here.

One thing I would like to say though: Be careful if your story is heavily influenced by Tolkien. If the book is somehow published (Unlikely but don't be discouraged in ANY way) then this may receive mixed responses. Some that read it may recognise the influence and enjoy it all the more, others may think that you've ripped off from the professor's own vision and not brought in your own ideas.
A perfect example of the latter, IMO of course, is the Eragon/Inheritance series. Dragons, elves who speak a very old language and are skilled in magic, Dwarves, A powerful tyrant that holds a lot of power over most of the land, even some names and such are taken from LOTR, e.g. Lake Mithrim (LOTR) and Isidar Mithrim/Star sapphire (Eragon)

So definitely continue, but tread carefully. :)

Let's see there are the first spirits and the second spirits that I have created since the age of 4 but they are like ainu and Maiars...
There are goblins, trolls, orcs, men, elves, dwarves, dragons, giant spiders but also many other creatures of my fantasy...
So maybe they start to say I stole but althought I got a big influence from Tolkien men, elves and dwarves were already in my mind sicne the first and second spirits... Of course elves are liek the Tolkien's elves but I have thought them before I read the book as being tall with pointy hears lovers of the forest because I don't like the small evil elves of other tales I have heard...
My fanatsy is my fantasy, 8) Let them say whatever they want

Hi Elros, yes I understand what you mean, however I would describe the Inheritance Cycle ss the plot of Star Wars with the setting of Lord of the Rings.

IWhat I have to say is similar to what Hilbert said, yes there is influence, elves Hilbert - small elves aren't evil either, they are just a riduculous idea that I also don't like, etc... however I too have many other things like the Spirit Lords for instance, whose position is more ambiguos andalthough the plot of my first book (if I stick to this sries forst and don't decide to finish my other series first - which has less influence) is similar to the entire trilogy in one respect, from there it kind of loses it. However, since that is as you say the first one, I am inclined to continue with the other series once I have finihed this chapter or so. My books are my books 8)

Myself believed I was copying Tolkien in the very begin.. But is an entire different world and althought simiral races are among many of my own... Also many of my influence came before I found Tolkien... I doen many changes for not being much alike... I changed the Nazgul-like creatures of mine to 10( I wished for eleven but the dark lord ahs only 10 fingers to wear them...) I changed my company from 10-15 on Ring of Time... I chanegd the route from west to wast to west-middle-far more west-east... So my world in my fantasy belong to me... I publish books not for money(Althought a publisher gets money as we know) but to share my fantasy because since when I was child I created maps, history, kings, battles as my own world. And I want to share my world and my fantasy to feel more happy :)

I agree, my wraith-like creatures Spec-fangs, probably have more in common with Dementors from HP as they have no legs, and there are more

Mine look like Nazgul a lot but they cannot be killed by any mean... :P

Mine can be banished with fire and a blow to the head, but they can only trely dieif their master is killed (which is nigh impossible)

That sounds like the 3 Vampire Counts in the Vampire Wars Trilogy - the first and third were very powerful burt the second was mad.
