Do you paint shields separately or already attached?

If already attached, how do you paint the areas of the figure close to the shield?
If separate, hod do you get the join to look okay if you're sculpting a strap or something to make it look like the figure is actually holding the shield?

After, if you're sculpting that stuff on it shouldn't be a problem to paint it up and then just attach the shield on top of what you've added

Assemble mini, to include shield, prime, paint, done. To ensure i get those areas closest to the body, i use one of two methods. 1.) prime in black and dont worry. Black hides a multitude of sins. 2.) work the paint into the recesses with my brush. This usually requires a few coats of paint.

I always paint the shields seperate...
but I only paint the reverse before hand and pant the front face later when attached to the mini.

Just seems easier to handle that way.

Except for moria shields ... There all the same so no point doing in different halves.
