| Post subject: | sculpting hints? |
hey guys ive currently gotten into scratch sculpting models out of curiosity has anyone got any hints or little titbits of wisdom regarding the subject ??? im currently using green stuff and millieput and hace a huge number of various sculpting tools/ bit of shaped plastic thanks in advance to any who replies |

My advice would be, it doesn't matter what you use, or what the model looks like when you're sculpting something - the only thing you're going for is shape, everything else is secondary. I say this because I use the box the model came in to sculpt often and people go 'oh, that looks ugly' - but it doesn't matter in the least because all of that's going to be painted over anyway. As long as you've got a solid shape and texture you're golden. |

Three things seem important to me: 1- Keep your tools wet when working with greenstuff, as it will counter the stickyness. 2- First sculpt the muscular anatomy of what you're aiming for, then cover it with clothes, etc. It'll help you respect the proportions of everything. 3- Newer wick yow scawpel. 
I suggest you look at eBob and ukfreddybear's articles on the site, as they give good pointers to beginners.

I also keep a sponge damp with WD40. That way, I can keep my tools less tacky for the putty, and it keeps them from rusting. Plus, it makes it easier to get things really smooth when I've got the basic shape I want - all you have to do is get your fingers watery & gently rub over the area to smooth.
