| Post subject: | Painting Goblin Armour |
Hi im looking for some advice on painting moria goblin armour, I have tried a few methods but it always ends up looking to shiny for my tastes. Im trying for something like the 'Eavy Metal Team' shown on the back of the box. I have tried the combinations of boltgun metal and tin bitz but it always looks to metalic and shiny. I have tried black ink, chaos black wash and chaos black drybrush but to me none of them look right. If anyone can suggest something it would be much appreciated. |

Hi, and welcome to the One-Ring  For dark or rusty armour of Orcs or Goblins, or any other evil brand of Middle-earthlings, I usually apply wash in the end with a 50/50-mix of black ink and scorched brown paint, well watered down this gives a nice 'rusty' look on the armour. The Scorched Brown in that mix makes sure the rusty parts don't shine too much aswell... Hope it helps

Check my goblins in the paint me an army thread. I first drybrush them with tin bitz. Then i drybrush them with a fifty fifty mix of tin bitz and chainmail. Then i drybrush them with blazing orange. Hope it helps p.s welcome to the OR

For mine I simply painted the armour Tin Blitz and then drybrushed it Chaos Black. Not the best finish but very fast which is useful when you're painting a horde of Goblins. |

Thanks for all the ideas I tried them out on a few old random models I base coated but didnt finish, I liked the finish from TheBucklandBrewer method but thought it looked a little too brown. I decided to replace the brown with chaos black giving me a nice dark look but not shiny like when I used the ink on its own. Thanks for the help and its nice to see such a friendly community

I do model tanks as well, and when painting the tracks, you can use the following method for a more rusty effect than starting with tin bitz. Start with a black undercoat, then drybrush it with your rust colour, which should be flat, not metallic. then drybrush it in silver. this is a techniwque for getting a more weathered effect, and you can, if you have a lot of time, go into a lot more detail - using oil paints, rust powders, or pigment powers... but that is a bit much for wargaming. When I do orcs, one thing I like to do is mix some rust powder (just find something rusty and rub it with steel wool to get a powder) together with some varnish and then paint it on in a few of the crevices and as streaks of rust. If you do this, be careful not to do too much, less is more. |

You have a few options but to throw another into the mix. Basecoat with a mix of Bestial Brown and Boltgun Metal and increase the Boltgun Metal to pure. The very edges and highest points highlight sparsly with Mithril Silver and complete with a Badab Black Devlan Mud wash to create the shading |

Hope it helps p.s welcome to the OR I thought that this method was ridiculous (after all, surely the rust would be on the parts that are NOT picked up by dry-brushing, i.e. those parts most likely to be rubbed rustless); however, I tried it and it looks great. So, if it looks right, it is right

I always give my goblin armour a thin line of boltgun metal, and than i heavily drybrush the armour with scorched brown. And it works fine. |

i paint them first tin bitz then drybrush with boltun metal at last a wash of devalen mod

I know you have a bunch already but heres one more for good measure  I start mine with a heavy Drybrush of Tin Bitz (Over a Black undercoat). I then do a slightly lighter drybrush with a 50/50 mix of Tin Bitz & Chainmail followed by a very light drybrush of just Chainmail. I finish it off with a wash of Gryphonne Sepia. I have no pics right now but I think they look rad! Cheers! |

i play gobs in wotr, and alot of them are unpainted, if you guys could get some pics up then it would be alot easier to understand Cheers |

Another one!!!! Heavily drybrush 50/50 Bestial brown and blazing orange first, then lighter drybrush boltgun metal on top of that. then black wash and its done
