Before GW came out with their Axemen of Lossarnach, I converted a squadron of them from MT archers. I got the idea from a picture in one of the supplement books (Gondor In Flames, I think, but I'm at work & don't remember). I gave them halberds (based on the one on the far left) with shorter, more hatchet based hafts.
I also remember some body-swaps being proposed. The only ones I tried were putting the top half of Riders of Rohan on the bottom half of Men of Numenor. It was a way to use leftover parts, & really doesn't look good.
