Hey all, sorry about the cheesy topic name but it relates to an issue I'm sure many people have come across: what to do with spare Hero models.

Over the years, I've gotten Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli from 4 different boxed sets. I've collected up 2 Dain Ironfoots and 4 Balins. I'm looking for inventive ways to modify these minis into someone or something else. Any of your pictures for inspiration would be much appreciated.

im one for coveting old minis for sure, however some can't really be converted or are worth too much to convert, then i would ebay them and buy new figures with the money :)

But legolas could be elf sentinals i guess
aragorn could be converted to ranger heros like cirion- i think thats his name
dain and barlin into a kings champion a champions or something?

You could do this with one of your balins......(scroll down)

I like to paint up my spare heroes to match different armies. Thus, I have a Gimli in the film colors, and another that matches the uniforms of the rest of my dwarves, etc.

Yep, I've done this with my Gimlis too; Fellowship Gimli is in Erebor colours, and Amon Hen Gimli is in red like the official GW models.

Some give you different wargear options, so it's useful to have a few painted up. Gimlis can make good shield bearers, boromirs give bits for hornblowers, hobbits can be made into hobbit militia etc. I'm still to find a use for Legolas as I always have too many Elf archers anyway!

How exactly does Gimli make a good shieldbearer? He is not bearing a shield.

Trade or sell the heroes I would say, or go with Erunion's suggestion.

Not the metal ones, but if I were to get ahold of a plastic Gimli from MoM I'd definitely do a head swap and give him a big ol' shield. :-D

They're pretty old models, now available in Finecast. Not sure anyone would want them lol.

I really like the pose on the RotK Aragorn, so I put chain mail & an elven cloak on that one. I keep it for my Fellowship setup.
The Helm's Deep Aragorn, I added a kilt & put him as a Lamedon captain.
The Fellowship Aragorn, I just gave a different paint job. Now he's a "mere" Ranger of the North. That's probably where I'd repurpose any others as well.

My second Gimli I'm planning to convert so I've got both 2hw & dual wield in poses I like. Only have the one Legolas, believe it or not.
A spare Fellowship Gandalf has been turned into Santa the Red.
An extra MT Siege Captain, I've put a cape on & now he's a Citadel Guard leader (doing that with another one, as well).
Turning a MoS into a Black Numenorean Captain with a completely new head (slow progress project).
Took a Malbeth the Seer and turned him into a Shade.

My first Galadriel, Protector of Lothlorien was converted so she's not using her Battle Aspect spell.

Probably got some others, but I honestly can't think of them at the moment.

Nice converion but I though it was meant to have a really big shield (not as big as a Vault Warden one of course). That plastic pose, unlike the metal ones does work with a shield, I think the plastic fellowship look better as Ghosts though.
