Anyone got a good guide to painting horses? I've got 12 kataphrakts to paint and GW's all black scheme is unrealistic and boring. Anyone? |

Most of the horses of the metal Kataphrakts are brown not black, See Shadow in the East. |

It doesn't have to be the colour GW recommends. For the Kataphrakts I would look into medieval warhorses. (google it or look on wikipedia) My recipe for brown horses is: * Undercoat black * Coat Scorched brown * Highlight Bestial brown * Final Highlight Vermin brown The manes are black/grey or light brown/yellowish Black horses are easier: * Undercoat black * highlight 80% black 20% codex grey * highlight 50% black 50% codex grey * highlight 75% black 25% codex grey * final highlight codex grey White horses: * undercoat black * coat Adeptus battlegrey * highlight Fortress grey * thin coats of Skull White Paint the socks in different colours (if you want socks). |

Wow, just in time. I have 21 kataphrakts primed, but not painted yet. I am still undecided about the Dragon upgrade. Thanks for posting this topic and the helpful replies. |
