I know we can use simple green on plastic and acetone on metal but has anyone yet tried to strip finecast? If so, what was the result? |

I'd be willing to paint a couple of sprue frames and test simple green and the effects. Finecast models themselves are a bit expensive and I'd would be leary to use anything on them without hard proof first. I will take pictures and let you know the results. |

This will be good to know, so simple green is best for plastic? I wasn't sure about using acetone so I tossed two broken ruined goblins in there, left them for a few hours, came back and they were disolved to goo, can you leave them in for a few minutes and be safe? Not willing to experiment on nicer figures |

You can get non acetone based nail varnish remover, plastics are safe in this. No idea about fine cast. Throw some sprue bits in. (Non acetone nail varnish remover is quite cheap if you get the non label stuff from pretty much any chemist) |

For folks in the UK, Fairy Power Spray doesn't dissolve finecast IIRC. It also works better than any other non-skin burny stuff I have ever used! I guess it is the equivalent to 'Simple Green'. |

Dettol works very well on plastics and metal. It does break down super glue though...so if you want glued models to stay together I wouldn't recommend it. If you are going to re-glue them anyway though, then I can thoroughly recommend Dettol. Not sure how it goes with Finecast however...  Here are some GW High Elves I gave the Dettol treatment too;

I do not know if we have dettol here in the states, but we did have dawn power dissolve ( fairy power spray ). I can not find it anymore, which is too bad because it works very well. Simple green is not the same thing, and while it works it does not work as well as the other two. |

Purple Power, usually on the shelf next to simple green at Walmart works great on plastics and metal. It will eat your skin though so use some kitchen gloves. I bare-palmed it and had chemical burns on my hands for a week |

I don't think Fairy power spray works on finecast. I was stripping some wings from my sanguinary guard, and accidentally left a finecast pair in with them. They didn't melt (they were a little flexible but I had used hot water) but none of the white paint came off them at all. |

How strange! Sometimes the mix in Finecast is a little different, so perhaps that was a more porous batch? Urgh, dettol! I used to use that, but the smell! It reeks! I found it turned Black Spray paint into sticky gooey mess, that I used Fairy Power Spray to clean up! The bonus of it was how cheap it is in comparison though. |

I've used dettol on finecast once and had to throw the model away afterwards. I had used a brush on primer (vallejo) which should have been quite easy to remove but I think I left it to soak for a couple of days by which point the model and paint had gone all rubbery. Having only had plastic and metal figures before I'm finding finecast a strange material to work with. |
