I have this Legolas model which I really like, unfortunately it's broken off of the slot that goes into the base.
Any advice for fixing it? I've seen people pin models into place on slate structure, any advice with doing that?

Best way would be to carefully drill a small hole into one or both feet and put metal pins into them with a bit of glue. Then drill holes into the base and glue the mini into it's place

I remove every single model I paint from the slot as it lets me have more freedom with the models base. From the stage pictured what you need is a GW pin vice or hobby drill. drill a hole in Legolas's flattest foot deep enough to sink a straightened out paperclip into. Superglue the paperclip in place in the foot. Drill a hole in the base where you want the model to be positioned, Use pliars to shorten the glued in foot paperclip to the desired length and then glue into the hole in the base. |

Any proven alternatives to the Citadel pin vice? Also what about mounting it on a small piece of slate taking up maybe half a base? I have a few large pieces I found at a beach that I could maybe SMASH up. |

I would just superglue them straight onto the base but then i'm not a gamer so the models are not likely t snap off again. Not really sure how you could secure them well enough to survive the rigors of gaming. I use a citadel Pin Vice but i'm sure there must be other makes out there. |

Pinning should work well, but alternatively you could 'glue' it onto a base using milliput. When cured, it is hard as rock. Green Stuff should work, but not as good as milliput (as GS dries out softer). I usually use milliput to put models on a flat base without the slots, also to fix metal models on rocks. The advantage is that you can also sculpt the milliput such that it looks like the rest of the rock. |

I think you will be hard pressed to drill the slate. As far as rocks go slate isn't the toughest in the world but it will be tough for a drill bit designed for wood which are usually used for this stuff. You may need to find some drill bits made for drilling cement or brick etc. Not sure if you can find them small enough though. Good luck. |
