hey guys,

I'm looking for a good elf king/prince proxy for fingolfin on a horse.

I was planning to use the GW Elrohir model. Because the pose is cool with his horse, and he has the same armor obviously as the other high elves.

Does anyone know of any other possible models? Even from other companies and miniature makers other than GW.

Mithril miniatures has some mounted elf characters. They are a bit taller than GW minis, but wasn't Fingolfin a particularly tall elf anyway?

I am not sure if Mithril has an "in print" mounted Elf other than their unarmoured Glorfindel models.

Thunderbolt Mountain have a "Wood Elf Champion" figure that might work very well for your purposes, now that I think of it.

I consider myself the resident expert on dark sword minis (largely because I paint them regularly). Yes, they are cool. I prefer them over gw. However, they stand a whole head taller than gw minis and their proportions are more realistic. You have been warned. Otherwise, good luck!

thanks jdizzy, was going to ask about a comparison between dsm and gw mini's.

With the dsm a bit taller, I think I might pass on them.

However, I do recommend them (dsm) for your other mini gaming needs. Rpg, song of blades and heroes, or just for the pleasure of painting a superb miniature.

thanks,

I'm just looking for either a nice mounted or non-mounted elven hero. With a sort of a heroic pose. Like he is leading his troops on.

That's why I was looking at the Elrohir pose

Though reaper minis are closer in size to gw's than dsm, it will be obvious that the mini is not lotr. If you are cool with that then go for it. If you want something that looks more like a gw lotr mini then keep looking. Otherwise, I recommend reaper. They make great minis. Have you performed a mini scale comparison search on google? This may help you select a manufacturer which more closely meets your prerequisites. Just google "games workshop vs. (insert manufacturer name) scale comparison.

thanks,

I think I'm narrowing my choices to two of them

Either this guy from red box games:
http://red-box-games.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=123

or this guy from dsm:
http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop ... sword.html

I looked up a bunch of comparisons for dsm mini's to gw's lotr and the scale isn't too bad.

I've never painted red box, but they look good. However, as you may have guessed, I'm biased in favor of dsm. ;)

don't blame you haha

The one cool thing about these other mini's is that they're not expensive! What a relief.

I just ordered the dsm mini I posted, and if I don't like it as much as I think I will, i'll order the red box mini

I'd have gone with the Red Box model, it's a beautiful piece.
