Hello all, I recently bought the Bilbo Baggins - Master Burglar figure and was thinking of sculpting an Arkenstone to put on the base of the model. The GW Smaug includes an Arkenstone, and I'm at a loss as to how to recreate that other-worldly, white glowing color. You can see pictures of this on GW's website. I've painted gems/jewels before, but I can't find a guide or instructions as to how to paint a white gemstone like the Arkenstone. Does anybody have any idea as to how to best execute this idea? |

Well for the colours you can just use pictures from the movie. But what makes it recognizable is the glow. I would think that it is not much different from painting the glow from fire or a torch. So for you could look into these. There are many examples and tuturials on the internet for painting with a lightsource. To use the correct effect, observe what the light does to normal colours and its surrounding. I think it could help to paint Bilbo in very dark colours to make the stone and its glow(effect) stand out. |

Dont' think GW did a great job anyway.
