Hi guys,

While I was trying to assemble my Great Beast of Gorgoroth I noticed some parts (actually a lot of the parts) wouldn't fit together very nicely.
I once read somewhere Finecast could melt when it got to hot, so I heated it with a lighter to bent it in shape. This actually worked very vell, but there must be a better (and safer) way to do this.

How do you guys reshape Finecast?

As Oldman Willow says hot water works perfectly. i wouldn't recommend heating the finecast with a lighter.

Thanks, I will definitely try it that way next time!
I wouldn't recommend to use a lighter as well. It was sheer frustration I used one

I found out the hard way that a hair drier will work just as well melted a sword off once

Hot water indeed.

First (and last) finecast products I got were High Elf spearmen and a couple of character models.
Every blade and spear was terribly misshapen...

I looked around online and found instructions on how to fix this.

Dip the resin in a bowl of hot water, and when the part is bendy, shape it with your fingers and dip it in a bowl of cold water to set it. I did this and repeated as needed. This solved most of the problems, but not all. I think I'll have to actually replace at least one spear and blade with a conversion, because it is truly un-fixable. Not very happy with S-bendy spear blades, and I'm never buying this product again.

But, most things can be fixed with hot water, bending, and then a dip in cold water.

Hope that helps. ;)

I am in the never buying it again school myself. I think a lot of people use heat guns and hair dryers to bend plastic. I find that air heats unevenly so it is very difficult to straighten small things like spears and swords. You can always use the oven. The heat needs to be set a few degrees below boiling point. Hot water is the best for me at least. 8)

How do you guys reshape Finecast?

Is it the older style with two halves or the newer version with two separate legs?

"Hot", not "boiling". Exactly as Oldman said.

Thank you all for the tips! The dip in hot water sounds like an easy and safe way to reshape finecast :)

Hahaha  Nice to hear I'm not the only one making some odd choices :-D

It's the newer version with two separate legs. The great beast itself wasn't the problem. It was the platform for the orcs. It was simply impossible to get all pieces together due to some crazy outward bends :?

Although I wouldn't recommend heating Finecast with a lighter (and watching it catch fire sometimes ) I did get to reshape the parts in a way all pieces came together and I'm happy with the result :)
