What are you guys' opinions on making a Gildor Conversion as he is OOP and very expensive to buy. How would you go about it?

Why mention OOP and expensive for? Do you ever plan on selling him, otherwise why care about his value if you're using him to your personal benefits? If value matters much, don't convert him, that way you can still sell him when you want.

Sorry I must have worded that badly as I meant to ask with the intention of converting something else into a model to be used as Gildor as I do not own Gildor and do not want to pay the hefty price tag for him.

I wouldn't convert a prized model. I dislike converting in general unless there is something I really like to try and would find cool.

If a person hopes to sell their models later one day, they have to know that conversions, unless well done, alters the value of the model as well. Generally I don't think people collect miniatures just to sell them in the far future unless they're kept mint, new in the package. Personally as a collector I like most of my minis unaltered, duplicates and doubles I wouldn't care to convert.

I think the wood elf sentinel with the flute or the old Haldir with sword but no armor would make a good proxy of Gildor. As for converting I don't know he's pretty minimalist so you'd have to remove more than add to make anything convincing. You best bet might be to go to Reaper miniatures and look for a proxy that you like.

Ok, thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated as I am very new to the hobby. :)

just do a head swap on a wood elf with elven blade. Or, maybe, just paint him in a different way. Gildor is very simple: no signature weapon, no armor. Old Haldir with elven blade is good, but hard to find (though not as expensive as Gildor).

if you are lucky, you may find on ebay a old conversion kit that went out on the SBG magazine. There's a elf head in there.

Do a conversion. Converting is way fun. Add in some green stuff and make your own gildor. As more and more minis go oop, I find myself doing a lot of conversions!

Sacrilege83, that's not what they're saying. They don't have Gildor.
The old Haldir with a sword is a good option, and it's not difficult to find, but it is still more expensive than most models, and I find it a very ugly model.

Reaper minis are bigger than citadel minis.

I think you could use an old plastic wood elf or even a metal one. They are often quite cheap on ebay. I also like the new wood elf captains. If you like the pose and feel confident, you could try sticking an elf head on the king of men drawing sword. It would look more like an old sorcerous elf lord, though.

Mithril.ie have a Gildor that is kind of decent! Also check out Yvander Halfblood from RedBox and reaper has lots and lots of options the size issue is handeled by mounting the mini on a flat base.

Looking around I'm leaning towards doing a wood elf captain by chopping of his bow and rotating that arm round to point towards the front, sort of as if he is trying to cast immobilize. Would you say that was easier with metal or finecast?
