Hi, I'm a relative newbie to GW LoTR and The Hobbit. I read the books as a teenager, and watched all 3 LoTR films on their opening nights. I didn't initially think as much of The Hobbit films, as I couldn't believe that it justified a trilogy! Having watched them all back-to-back recently I'm now converted! I have been a railway enthusiast and modeller for many years. I currently have a large model railway based in the preserved Severn Valley Railway. However retirement and property downsizing have encouraged a change in hobby. My eldest son, used to collect the Hex based LoTR game and figures, but for whatever reason that product failed, and was clearly overtaken by the GW SBG range. My youngest son become interested in 40k, and has a collection of Dark Angel Space Marines. My wife suggested that I did some miniature figure painting, and I've started collecting, building and painting LoTR and Hobbit figures. I've no real interest in actually playing the game (sorry!) - creating dioramas of scenes from the films and books is my focus. So far I've done: Rohan riders vs Warg riders Losing control of Osgiliath The Fellowship surrounded in Moria Next are some Moria goblin commanders, the Balrog, and the Escape from Goblin Town. It's exciting that I've started on this hobby just as GW seem to be re-invigorating their support for these genres. |

Hi Malcolm and welcome to the One Ring ! This is a fantastic site, and if you browse around the site, there are great resources and knowledge to be found. The Work-in-progress posts are really outstanding, as you will likely be as inspired as I usually am to create new dioramas, discover new paint schemes, and learn some cool techniques. Another great place to look for inspiration are the monthly painting and sculpting challenges and the accompanying voting threads - you will see some amazing stuff there as well. Welcome, enjoy, and don't be shy about posting on the message board ! |
