Do you have the name of the chapter, I checked every pagr of my 1972 Edition (so 14th edition, not ancient but it is to me since I was born in 1993) from page 1 to page 102 and found no Golfimbul, maybe it just isn't in this edition. You've almost made me want to get a new one. Sorry about disbelieving you it's just there was no Golfimbul in mine that I could find.

In the Complete Guide to Middle-Earth, it says that he's on page 30 of the Ballantine edition, and the Guide itself was copyrighted in 1973.

Look for the Misty Mountain song in the Unexpected Party. A few paragraphs later Bibbo will cry out "stuck by lightning"and faint. Then the story about Golf will be told.
King Fingolfin name was changed to Golfinbul before Blandortin was changed to Gandalf. Golfinbul has been part of the Hobbit from the first typed draft.
I find something new every time I read it. I am only about half way through the new two volume set the History of the Hobbit.
