So I went through my stuff, and I don't quite have enough to run Isengard, and even if I did I'd still have to assemble and paint over a dozen warg riders. So I've decided to go with Gondor.

Here's my thought for my first 250 points:
Faramir w/ heavy armor, lance, horse
12 knights of minas tirith

Small, fast, and hard hitting. I'd toss in a couple of shields, but my knights are the older metal versions, and I don't have shields to physically put on them.

Thoughts?

You'll be outnumbered, and with only F3 and D5, will likely be killed in combat unless the dice are very in your favor. Faramir will only do so much before he dies, as well. I'd definitely consider an infantry contingent.

Yes, 13 models is far too low troop count even for a 250 pts. match. I agree with this suggestion.

Ok, what about this:

Faramir w/ heavy armor, lance, horse
6 knights of minas tirith
5 WoMT w/ spear + shield
4 WoMT w sword + shield

That brings me up to 16 models. Or would archers be more useful? I could bring 10 WoMT with bows. Or for the same points 10 rangers.

I would just take Faramir and a typical Gondor shieldwall; a nice, realiable, solid army. Here's a list off the top of my head (so please excuse any mistakes):

Faramir with heavy armour - 75pts
10 Warriors of Minas Tirith with shield - 80pts
10 Warriors of Minas Tirith with spear and shield 90pts
Total - 245pts

No no no :D no way , you must have bows too

Faramir w/heavy armor-75pts

5xWoMT w/shield & spear-45pts
5xWoMT w/shield-40pts
5xWomt w/bow-40pts

at this point you have 16 models and 50points left (i.e its 200 pts above)

1)What I´d add is Denethor or Beregond and then a couple of WoMTs

2)but with a more stabilized list I would add 6 more WoMTs boosting the army total to 22

Faramir w/heavy armor-75
7xWoMTs w/shield & spear-63pts
7xWoMTs w/shield-56pts
7xWoMTs w/bow-56pts

Anyway You still need bows...

OR

You could use Rangers of Gondor instead of WoMTs giving you a slightly less defended but better killing shooters

If you take knights, give them shields. The One Ring book doesn't allow it, but the Gondor in Flames sourcebook does. No point spending all those points on something that can die 33% of the time to an orc.

1st question, are you playing more to win or for fun?

if more so to win go for infantry (with max bows...)

if for fun get some knights in there as the extra mobility makes it more fun (at least in my opinion)

but if you find a way to get shields on your knights then go ahead and get them...

If anyone has any spare shields for my knights, I could use 15 or so! I unfortunately went ahead and got a bunch of the metal version before the plastic version and the shields were available.

The list goes from 250 to 500 next week, so if I don't add knights now, I'll add them next week.

If I went max bows I could bring 11, which would allow me to volley fire for the first turn or two of the game. If I do that, the list will look like this:
Faramir w/ heavy armor - 75
11x WoMT w/ Bow 88
6x WoMT w/ spear + shield
4x WoMT w/ shield
249 points and 22 models total

And I don't see why I can't have fun and win! :-)

I don't mean to annoy you but I much prefer shooting and flexibility (probably because I have elves.)

Damrod 20 pts.
10 rangers of Gondor 80pts.
Captain of Minas Tirith 50 pts.
8 warriors of Minas Tirith with shields 64 pts.
4 warriors of Minas Tirith with spears and shields 36 pts.

Total: 250 pts. on the dot.

you are both forgetting the 33% rule....
out of all your warriors, only 33% of them can have bows...

heros dont apply to this rule

Bother. Forgot totally about that. Looks like I'll have to do 7*7*7 and no volley fire.

Faramir w/ heavy armor
7x WoMT w/ archers
7x WoMT w/ spear + shield
7x WoMT w/ shield

250 points
22 models

No, I'm not, Minas Tirith allies with Ithilen. Ithilien's hero is Damrod so that is legal. Ithilien don't have an archer limitation.

Yes they do. Where did you read they didn't? Only Grey Company has no limit, if you take the right configuration.

Hmm? I was sure it was Ithilien as well which didn't need 33% archer limitation, whoops my bad

Ok, so the shield wall vs. dwarves didn't work out so well.

I used
Faramir w/ heavy armor
7x Rangers
7x WoMT w/ spear + shield
7x WoMT w/ shield

I got squashed going against 8 dwarf warriors, 8 dwarf ironguard, and 1 captain.

Game 2 - 500 points I brought:
Faramir w/ heavy armor, lance, horse
Damrod
8x Rangers
8x WoMT w/ spear + shield
7x WoMT w/ shield
15x Knights of Minas Tirith

My opponent had:
Goblin King (Jareth), 2 captains (as played by Sam and Frodo in orc armor), 2 shamans, 8 goblin prowlers, and the rest regular goblins.

My dice liked me much better, and I won!! http://towerofthearchmage.blogspot.com/ ... games.html

Now I'm wondering what to do for 750 points next week. I have a knight with a banner, I've got 6 more rangers, about a dozen WoMT archers, 4 or 5 each of WoMT with swords or spears, 3 citadel guard, Beregond, Gandalf the White, Boromir (both versions), the trebuchet, or I can start thinking about allies. I can also make a couple of guys into captains. Thoughts?

For allies I've got a bunch of Riders of Rohan and warriors of rohan plus characters.

I would think about adding Beregond. He's a cheap source of a might point and a good shot with a bow. Plus he's got the bodyguard rule and is ok in a fight. As for the other 225 pts, I'm not really sure... I guess add more to your shooting, add the knight with banner, and then just some more melee foot troops if you have the points.

Does Ithilien get knights?

Author:  ShadowMaster26 [ Fri Apr 16, 2010 8:36 am ]
Post subject:

Ithilen does not get KoMT-however Faramir could just be from the White Tower of Ecthelion list, which has them, and Damrod is from Ithilen, so it is legal.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think it is. Even if the WoMT come from the Ithilien list, you still have gone over the bow limit for Ithilien.
