Post subject:  Easterling Army Lists

Hey!

I've recently acquired a large Easterling army!
Here's what I've built/converted:

1 Amdûr, Lord of Blades
1 Easterling Captain with halberd
1 Easterling Dragon Knight
5 Easterling Kataphrakt one banner.
1 Easterling War Priest
1 Khamul the Easterling ft and mtd.
15 warriors with shields and hand weapons
8 spear and shield
8 bows
6 bow and spears
3 banner warriors
1 warrior with hand weapon, shield and horn.

Comes to just under 1k

From this, I'd like to make 300pt, 500pt and 700pt lists, what are the better combinations?

If you're planning to make a 1K army list out of this, then there is definetely too many heroes. I would take out two of the minor ones (warpriest and captain or dragonknight and captain) and the banner isn't necessary as you have Amdur. For 300 points I would probably only use a captain and maybe just a banner squeezed in. For 500 I would take Amdur or Khamul+another minor hero like Dragon knight etc.

In 700 I would take probably Khamul and Amdur or just one of them and a minor. Also, I would take cavalry always if possible in 500+ (or maybe in 300 if you have a good few points to spend).

Hope this was helpful. :)

Oh no, not a 1k list, that's just what I have :)

For my 500pt list I was thinking:

500 Pts - Easterlings Roster

Hero (1#, 135 pts)
. . 1 Khamul the Easterling @ 135 pts (Essence Leech; Harbringer of Evil; Terror; Will of Evil; Black Dart; Compel; Drain Courage; Sap Will; Transfix; Hand Weapon)
. . . . 1 Warhorse (Armour)

Easterling Warrior (5#, 90 pts)
. . 1 Easterling Kataphrakt @ 34 pts (Hand Weapon; Heavy Armour; Horn)
. . . . 1 Warhorse (Armour)
. . 4 Easterling Kataphrakt @ 56 pts (Hand Weapon; Shield; Heavy Armour)
. . . . 4 Warhorse (Armour)

Easterling Warrior (13#, 128 pts)
. . 1 Easterling Warrior @ 32 pts (Hand Weapon; Heavy Armour; Banner)
. . 12 Easterling Warrior @ 96 pts (Hand Weapon; Shield; Heavy Armour)

Easterling Warrior (8#, 80 pts)
. . 8 Easterling Warrior @ 80 pts (Hand Weapon; Spear; Shield; Heavy Armour)

Easterling Warrior (6#, 60 pts)
. . 6 Easterling Warrior @ 60 pts (Hand Weapon; Spear; Bow; Heavy Armour)

Validation Report:
Regular: Tournament
Roster satisfies all enforced validation rules

Total Roster Cost: 493

Just trying to figure out where to put the banner and horn. Both seem VERY handy...

Hmmm... Seems pretty solid. I would give the banner to the Kataphrakt (though I'm not sure if he can take one). I'd look for some way to boost up the numbers a bit. You still have some points left, I might pull of the horn-blower and get some more for that shield wall.

Right, I've added the banner to the Kataphrakt, and the horn to a warrior.

Idea is I form a wall with the Shields, archers and then spears, making full use of the phalanx rule.

Khamul and the Kat's will either act as a reserve, striking out when the shield wall breaks, or will race ahead and try to pick off any archers or characters.

500 Pts - Easterlings Roster

Hero (1#, 135 pts)
. . 1 Khamul the Easterling @ 135 pts (Essence Leech; Harbringer of Evil; Terror; Will of Evil; Black Dart; Compel; Drain Courage; Sap Will; Transfix; Hand Weapon)
. . . . 1 Warhorse (Armour)

Easterling Warrior (5#, 95 pts)
. . 1 Easterling Kataphrakt @ 39 pts (Hand Weapon; Heavy Armour; Banner)
. . . . 1 Warhorse (Armour)
. . 4 Easterling Kataphrakt @ 56 pts (Hand Weapon; Shield; Heavy Armour)
. . . . 4 Warhorse (Armour)

Easterling Warrior (13#, 124 pts)
. . 1 Easterling Warrior @ 28 pts (Hand Weapon; Shield; Heavy Armour; Horn)
. . 12 Easterling Warrior @ 96 pts (Hand Weapon; Shield; Heavy Armour)

Easterling Warrior (8#, 80 pts)
. . 8 Easterling Warrior @ 80 pts (Hand Weapon; Spear; Shield; Heavy Armour)

Easterling Warrior (6#, 60 pts)
. . 6 Easterling Warrior @ 60 pts (Hand Weapon; Spear; Bow; Heavy Armour)

Played two games today with my Easterlings.
First was 500pts against Uruk Hai. He had about 8 crossbows behind a shield wall and a line of pikes behind the crossbows, 6 berserkers and 2 captains.
Mission was Kill the king (kill the enemy leader)
Wasn't that interesting for most of the part as he sat in the far corner for half of the game taking pot shots at my easterling phalanx.
Once I got there with my reduced numbers is was a bloody fight, I thought I did pretty well despite it being my third game, and first game with the easterlings. I managed to transfix a berserker at one point, blocking the way for the other berserkers and making them outside of charge range :)

Khamul died horribly.. lucky rolls, 2 attacks, I lost combat.. then my opponent rolled 2 6's to wound.. and then I failed both my fate tests. So that was that game over!

Second game was against another Easterling army, cant remember exactly what he had.
It was 600 pts so I took Amdur, makes a great center piece in the phanlanx.. especially with his banner rule!

My phanlanx hit his much smaller shield wall and ripped most of them apart...
He had the Dark Marshall.. and I had the GREAT idea of using Sap Will on him.
Almost worked...

And then he did it to me later on and I failed to dispel it, and khamul was banished :(
I was stupid, amdur took 2 wounds in a combat against a morgul blade. failed both my fate tests but I didnt think to use my Might to increase the dice number, D'oh!
I eventually whittled him down, feeding the Dark Marshall enough warriors to reduce his Will until he was banished.
I won because I had the center objective :)

Sounds like the army went pretty well. I would use the hammer and anvil tactic with the phalanx and kataphracts.

And how does that work? I mean as the crossbows can't support the guys with shields, the pikes can't either.

Why so?

You need a spear or pike to support someone in front of you. You can support someone two ahead of you with a pike, but only if they're directly supported by a pike or spear. See page 43 of the rules.

Ah I didn't know that.
However I cant remember an instance where he used all three, his crossbows retreated back as soon as I hit his line, but I can't remember too well.

Cheers!

The crossbow tactic wouldn't work very well anyway IMO even if he could support through them, as they wouldn't be able to move if he wanted to shoot.

Oh he didn't move, he sat in the corner and made me come to him, luckily I didn't lose too many models by the time I got there. Once I hit his wall his berserkers came around the sides and his crossbows ran to the back and didn't get to shoot again as everything was in a giant combat.
