Hello, I am planning to go to the WOTR Throne of Skulls this year and this is the list I am planning on using, any advices is welcome! (note: I do have more models than I use in this list) Heroes: Théoden - 125 Éomer - 90 Radagast - 160 (allied from Forgotten Realms) Common Formations: 4 Companies Riders of Rohan Éored + Captain - 170 4 Companies Riders of Rohan Éored + Hornblower - 135 4 Companies Riders of Rohan Éored - 120 2 Companies Oathsworn Bowmen - 40 2 Companies Oathsworn Bowmen - 40 Legendary Formations: 4 Companies Erkenbrand's Riders - 275 Rare Formations: 4 Companies Grimbold's Helmingas + Hornblower - 220 Battlehost: Riders of Westfold - 75 (everything part of the Host is in Italic) Fortunes: Strength of the Mearas - 50 Total Points: 1500 |

Some elites would be nice. Perhaps take the rohan Royal Guard instead of the Hemlingas. I don't know how useful the battle-host will be but I myself am not a fan of Erkenbrand's riders and I find it's much cheaper to use him as EH, which is what I'd do unless the battle-host is really, really good. |

I find royal guard too expensive for what they do (and I don't really get their use, what are they useful for?), money wise.. And I like the helmingas beacause they are quite fierce... The battlehosts makes everything part of the host pass terror tests within 12"of Erkenbrand + they strike at the same time as monsters... I took Erkenbrand's riders because they have S4... But I could take Erkenbrand and make his riders normal RoR and still have the Battlehost. |

Quote: Fortunes: Strength of the Mearas - 50 Counterspell - 25 You can only have 1 Fortune in 1500 army I really don't see the point in having the 4 companies of bowmen, you're kinda wasting 80 points there as they won't do anything to pay themselves back and will be taken out in the first combat (and guess what - if they're in the same combat as your cavalry, even if your riders kill 10, they kill 2, but opponent kills 12 bowmen, you will lose because that will effectively wipe out 2 full companies, ie. 16 models and you just lost combat -> just a thought). And I don't see the point of striking at the same time as monsters, it's not like there's a ton of non-Rohan all-cav armies out there (I only ever seen a Minas Morgul one, and it wasn't as good as Rohan can be). |

I want to hit monsters before I lose models, it has it benefits... And about the fortunes, that's my bad, will change it. |

If they strike at the same time, you will still lose exactly the same number of models and the difference in attacks will most likely be no more than 1, because the monster will probably kill 1 supporting company before taking hits (or sometimes won't even kill a single company, so it won't make any difference at all). |

In the games I played it did, and besides I hit before cavalry does, which is a huge benefit against any army even if they have only 1 formation of cavalry. |

I agree with Spuds, I'd take Erkenbrand as a Epic Hero instead. Being able to move between formations is a huge bonus. |

But with what would you fill the points I would have spare then? (And it does make a huge diff against D6 and up.. (monsters) and my Erkenbrand's Riders are used as monster hunters.) |

Monsters with D8 care, but S4 needs a 6 (which is 1/6 chance), while S3 with lance needs 5/3, which is equivalent 1/4.5 (2/3*1/3=2/9=1/4.5). In other words S4 is much worse than S3 with lance. That means simply, that Royal Knights who cost 5 points less are faaaaar better than Erkenbrand's Riders, plus you get to have an epic hero free to jump around. In conclusion: get Royal Knights instead. At the same time how many commonly used units have D6? Gundabad Blackshields is the only one I can think of atm (and I mean commonly used). Never really considered Royal Knights because I don't have the models and they I find them too expensive to buy... But a formation of 4 companies Royal Knights would hit hard indeed... |

I can think of one more commonly used formation with D4: Galadhrim. Though, as you said, there are very few. |

Still, Royals with Lances kill D6 on 5+ and D4 on 4+, just like S4. While they also kill D5 on 4+ and D7 on 5+ unlike S4. Royal Knights are by far the best common formation in Rohan army (and one of the best in the game imo). |

you also have royal guard on foot... And in my current list I got a fortune that gives +1S to a formation, if I give it to Erkenbrand's Riders they would be S5... That is better than S3+lances IMO |
