Well, at the end of January i might be entering a 150 pts (i know, small right?) LOTR SBG tournament at my local store, and even though theres still about a month and a half, ive been pondering what list to use  only restrictions are 150 pts and LoME rules. Ive come up with a couple lists, and i just want to see what you all think!

list 1 -
Thranduils Halls-
- Wood Elf Captain w/bow - 70 pts
- 7 Wood Elves with spear (3 w/ throwing dagger) - 62 pts
- 2 Wood elves with elf bow - 18 pts

150 pts, 10 models, 2 might, 3 shots
not too sure about this one because of the lack of bows, but well see

List 2 -
Erebor
- Balin - 75 pts (correct me if this is wrong, i dont have his profile with me now)
- 6 Khazad Guard - 66 pts

141 points (could include a DW with shield to fill it out), 7 models, 3 might
This type list might be over-used, but its solide. as long as Balin survives it wont break and with D7 troops itll be hard to kill.

List 3 -
Easterlings
- Easterling captain - 50 pts
- 4 Easterling with spear + shield - 36 pts
- 4 easterlings with shield - 32 pts
- 4 easterlings with bow - 32 pts

13 models 150 pts, 2 might, 4 shots
I hope i got the points right for the easterling warriors, their page fell out of my rule book :(
but i i like this list as i have never played easterlings before and i am interested in how it would turn out :)

So tell me what you think, and which list seems best/more fun to play. This would be my first tournament so im curious to see how well i do :-D

yes hobbits would make sense to play at this level but i dont own any, and unless they make a box set i probably never will buy enough to make an army :P i do have some goblins so i could try to make a list.. i need to build by gobbs anyways so i have something to face off against my dwarves :)

anyways do you know the model limit for 150 pts? and do any of the above lists look good?

Pardon me for saying so but 150 points is a bit silly :) Not much room for everyone to come up with a reasonable army configuration, and statistically major heroes would have a pretty good chance of dominating. I'd take the monkey twins and an elf or two depending on equipment. The model limit is 50 models at 500 points or less, which means a goblin captain and 22 goblins if you want numbers.

i do agree about the silliness :D but i think the GW employee whose running it (well hes actually running the whole store) is just trying to drum up some interest in lotr sbg which i find is a good thing. All you need for this tournament is a box set and a command blister or hero. If it brings in more players im happy for it!

the twins and an elf w/ spear would be devastating, no one would have the fire power to take them down

Glorfindel on Asfaloth would be great fun to play but probably not as competitive as the monkey twins with bows.

To be honest I think the Mordor Troll Chieftan would be absolutely brutal at this points level. Even against the twins. His S7 means he wounds everything, even dain on a 5 or less and khazads on 4s, while everyone needs 6 or more to wound him. plus his high F7 means that even the twins would lose in a tie. Plus he would be a blast to play as long as you kept the 2 orcs out of sight so that he wouldn't have to take courage tests once they die.

Other than that I like your Khazad list. Though I would drop two of the Khazads for two Iron Guard to get your points to 150 and get a couple throwing weapons in there and more attacks, so:
Balin 75
4 Khazad 44
2 iron Guard 30

149 points, 7 units, 3 might

EDIT: Ooo also Imrahil on Armoured Horse might be fun as well, though not as competitive as the twins or the troll.

how about
dwarf ballista
balin
3 dwarf warriors with shields

or
2 mordor siegebows
orc captain
2 orcs

some shooty armies, cus im guessing all armies will be small so these would be able to cripple most armies before they reach your lines and then if any make it past the fire and courage tests youve got 7 orcs to fight

Wow, this is generating a lot more responses then i thought it would aha :D
and yes the Mordor troll chief looks devastating, and with chirstmas comming up i just might get him :)

your list seems interesting Hobbitsrule, though have never used or even seen siege weapons being used so i have no idea how it would turn out.

what about Gil-galad and and elf warrior? sort of like the Troll chieftain but for the forces of good. 3 might and causes terror, not to mention +1 to wound..

Gil-galad could work, though i would give him a shield if i was to play with him. However I think that the twins w/ heavy armour could be more devastating as they have alot of might and with the armour they are D7 so thats good enough against most things, plus together they can have up to 6 attacks, that is pretty brutal. Basically anything with alot of killing power is scary at this points level as long as you use it properly, so pick whichever one of those you would most like to play with.

Wouldnt take a ballista though, as smart use of terrain will basically mean you wasted alot of points.

With armor the twins are D6, not D7. Still the best bet IMHO as they get twice the attacks and twice the might as Glorfindel. Still, none of these hero lists are probably going to be in the spirit of what the organizer had planned, if he's trying to entice people to learn SBG.

QFT...If you are trying to bring in newcomers, always go for simple and uncomplicated. If everyone brings a good number of troops with low-level heroes and Captains, I think the playing field would be much more even and would be more fun for your opponents. Save the gimmicks for competitive tournaments and goofing around with your buddies, in my opinion.

My thoughts exactly whafrog, but ill keep these power lists incase some of the more serious players decide to play competitively.

any thoughts on some non competitive lists? or would any of my origional lists work for a fun/simple game?

I would say that the Erebor list is fun and fairly decent.
