Hi! I just recently got back into playing LotR SBG and realized there are now so many different profiles for so many figures so when I tried to create my armies I got a bit confused. I posted in another thread about my return to the world of LotR SBG - http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=21078 Now I am trying to get my armies together so please leave feedback if I have messed up due to the many different profiles... The first army: Rivendell Army This army is inspired (and lead by) Elladan and Elrohir and themed around them leading a scouting party of lightly armed elves backed up by some heavy armoured Archers that are holding the "rallying point" from where the scouting party makes its forays. Scouting Party Elladan and Elrohir with Heavy Armour.................150p Elven Warrior with Banner................................42p 16 Elven Spearmen (8p each).............................128p 2 Elves with Elven Blades (8p each)......................16p Base defenders Elf Hero with Elven Bow and Heavy Armour ............80p 7 Elven Archers with Heavy Armour (11p each)........77p TOTAL......................................................493p 29 models, 8 Bows, 8 Might Please note that I am most interested in knowing if the list is correct rules wise as I love playing themed armies even if they aren't always the game winners. |

"elf hero"?? I assume you mean an elf captain, in which case the model would cost 80 points, i recommend swapping the captain for Erestor, or if you want to have an even cooler theme, Arathorn! |

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... ofiles.pdf special rules are also on the site and he is the same cost as a captain with heavy armor. For the army lose the heavy armor on the elf archers and give them to the spearmen. They need it more in close combat. And it's not smart to erestor elladan and elrohir are strong enough in 500 points elldan, elrohir and erestor is a bit overkill. |

I don't think at this points level a Banner is necessary for the Elves; do you really need it most of the time paying extra points and having all your troops F5? So I would drop that and get some more Elves w/Elven Blade. And what Hero of Gondor said with the heavy armour: 'caus most of the time they'll just be sitting back shooting and then perhaps the Spears can then go up to D6 with shields and normal S3 will need 6s to wound. Otherwise I like it: Nice army, and welcome back!

OK, I checked out Erestor and thought about the Banner bearer and armored archers. I think I will keep the armored archers but get rid of the banner so here is the tweaked list: Scouting Party Elladan and Elrohir with Heavy Armour.................150p 17 Elven Spearmen (8p each).............................136p 7 Elves with Elven Blades (8p each)......................56p Base defenders Elf Captain with Elven Bow and Heavy Armour ............80p 7 Elven Archers with Heavy Armour (11p each)........77p TOTAL......................................................499p 33 models, 8 Bows, 8 Might I have the the twins painted and ready to go and they will soon be highlighted in my blog at http://www.blog.warofthering.eu (more on that once the pictures of twins and the focus on my budding Elven party is up). |

I'd drop the captain, you could get up to 9 more guys if you removed him, and you could have one twin garrisoned in your base, and the other in the scouting party? |

Wait, what? If you're going to field a bunch of naked elves, they might as well be wood elves, who can use their spears to shield and have the option of throwing daggers. The benefit of high elves is their heavy armor, the benefit of wood elves is they have ways to make up for that lack. Also, one strength of elves is their bows, but you haven't maxed them. No reason bows can't be part of the scouting party, in fact you have no missiles at all which isn't very useful for scouts if they need to catch someone. I appreciate you wanting themed games, but they need a specific story/scenario and, just MHO, what you have is more of a scenario than a theme. Your army is more suited to a specific scenario you have designed that guarantees the base defenders actually have a base to defend, and the scouts have an objective of their own. But if you roll a random scenario and get Take and Hold, where everybody arrives on the board randomly, your themed army is going to be a fish out water. As an example, we once played a "high elf picnic", which featured Elrond and all his children, with about 15-20 guards. They started in the center, and at least one of the children had to escape to carry on the line. The enemy was the Dark Marshall and a host of orcs allied with the warg chief and a pack of wargs. It was fun to play even though I got slaughtered...but that's not an army I'd ever field for general purposes. I think you could have a similarly themed army that would be more effective if you went with Galadhrim instead, and used, say, Haldir as your base commander, and Rumil as your scout commander, with troops made of a mix of Galadhrim and wood elves, each one leveraged for their strengths. Or stick with your list but take 1/3 bows and give everyone heavy armor. It doesn't have to be super competitive, but it might as well be challenging. |

If it's just wood elves you want, I'd recommend Legolas as a leader instead. But if you want any elves with armor mixed with wood elves, then Haldir's your guy. Wood elves are in the Fall of the Necromancer book. Galadhrim, which includes wood elves, can be found in a PDF on GWs website. You have to register (it's free) then look for the link to the White Dwarf archives. |

Yeah, forgot about bow limit in each contignent. What if I make it an all Lothlorien army, remove Legolas and replace him with what? (Wood Elf Cpt, Banner, more Spears?) Can I have just Legolas as an ally? He is 100% armed with bow and less than three models, is that allowed? Can I make two of the Wood Elves with Elven Blades his troops to make the list legit? |

Heros dont count towards the bow limit. You don't need the elven blade elves if you dont want them. |
