Hi there,

I've just started this hobby and I've played enough MoM to move on to making my first army. I'm trying to decide on an evil army to use, and my only real criteria is to be able to ally in some Dunlendings later. Basically I'm basing everything on the bad guys I liked in the book.

Anyway, here is my first draft of an 500 pt angmar list.

The Shadow Lord - 120 pts
1 Shade - 100 pts
1 Orc, Banner - 30 pts
17 Orc, Shield - 102 pts
16 Orc, Spear - 96 pts
8 Orc, bow - 48 pts

Total: 496 points, 44 bodies, 2 might

I chose the Shadow Lord because I know my buddy is making a Galadhrim army, and I need to actually get my dudes over to him, and then a shade and a banner to help with the killing process. My main concern is only having 2 might, but I figure with a simple tactic as move in under Shadow Lords cover, chop up, repeat that doesn't matter too much. Also, I'm kind of feeling that the 8 orc bows are kinda useless with their 5+ to hit and not being enough to volley, but I figured I needed some shooters.

So what think you?

You don't need to use OTT Shadow Lord to beat them.

If he is using a good elf army then he needs the shadow lord what do you think if you come with def 5 against this kind of army's:
Legolas elf cloak 100
haldir armour , bow 80
11 galadhrims shield 110
11 galadhrims spear 99
11 gladhrim bow 110

Still think he doesn't need the shadow lord?

ON topic: Banner isn't needed you already have a shade why would you use a banner with that. What you army misses is anything that actually can kill something. Also bows are not useless but you need much more. Orcs are indeed not made for shooting but you need much.

It's a good list but drop the banner, it's really not very good. Also, those orcs with bows aren't useful and will just slow down your army or make free kills for the pointy-eared ones. I suggest swapping them for mixed shields and spears. And give a few orcs with spears some shields with the left-over points.

I was thinking about more archers, but with 4 in a pack I don't think that's financially viable. Being poor sucks. :(

What if I drop the banner and archers, and get a barrow-wight? Knocked down heroes/shields should be easier to kill, right? Maybe get some 2-hand weapons for the +1 to wound? I would give spears some shields, but we have agreed on a strict interpretation of WYSIWYG.

Replace the barrow wight with a fellbeast then you have killing power and hero's are stil leasy with transfix and the shade nearby.
