I was just browsing through my Khazad-Dum Sourcebook and stumbled over an interesting discovery... The base profile of a Moria Goblin Prowler is better than a warrior of Rohan... I don't think I'm going to be getting a Rohan army soon... Instead I think I'll convert all my current goblin warriors(except the ones with a spear) and make them prowlers... For only two points difference I get a better fight value, a better shoot value, throwing weapons and a wonderful special rule for trapped enemies!!!! :D I'm only going to be using the ones with spears to support the prowler shields-men which will make them MUCH better. I'm going to have to get more goblins and some prowlers with two-handed weapons than just the twenty-four and the troll I have now from the MoM. So with what I have now I'm thinking of the following list:

Heroes:
2 Goblin Captains, one with bow one with shield(interesting... the prowlers shoot better than the captain who's leading them. )
1 Goblins Shaman

Warriors:
7 Goblin Warriors w/ Spears
7 Goblin Prowlers w/ Shield
7 Goblin Prowlers w/ Bow
1 Goblin Prowler w/ Two Handed-Weapon(ok, I know I said I didn't have any of these ok, but I'm subbing in a uruk-hai warrior with a half-broken pike it's as good as you'll get)
Cave Troll w/ Troll Chain

Comes up to: 349 Pts, 8 shots, and 1 magic user

Comments? Advice on how to use this army?
Critical comments encouraged.

It's ok, I'd swap a Captain for more Prowlers.

Yeah, I'm guessing the one with the bow how about this:

Heroes:
1 Goblin Captains, with shield
1 Goblin Shaman

Warriors:
7 Goblin Warriors w/ Spears
7 Goblin Prowlers w/ Shield
8 Goblin Prowlers w/ Bow
5 Goblin Prowler w/ Two Handed-Weapon
Cave Troll w/ Troll Chain

Comes up to: 349 Pts, 8 shots, and 1 magic user

As far as the shaman goes, any tips on using him? I always cast fury but should I even bother with the transfix? If not, should I just keep the other will for courage tests?
btw, do monsters count toward the bow limit or not?

In SBG, monsters don't really count as monster, they are either heros or warriors, a cave troll is a warrior and hence counts towards a bowl limit, hoxwevr, his ability to throw stones and/or troll chain does not count as a bow. Does that help.

Also, drop the troll chain and get an extra goblin.

I love shamans, keep him supporting the captain with his spear so he can't easily be targetted by a heroic combat. I wouldn't bother with transfix, make sure to cast fury instantly, the rest of his will needs to be kept safe, he automatically passes courage when under fury's effect so he doesn't need his will for that. Try and keep the troll near him, a troll really benefits from fury, especially when your opponent sinks all their might into killing it, then the troll has a 50% chance of recovering a wound thanks to fury, and can have another turn or two beating up the enemy.

Only models of the caster's race benefit from Fury, so trolls don't qualify...unless you have a troll shaman somewhere :)

Lol, yes trolls don't get affected. :-X but they're really helpful. I'm actually playing with this list right now against my sister who's playing dwarves. I'm actually winning, but she's really not that good so the end is pretty much predictable. I've learned one thing, though: keep your goblin prowler archers on the ground and charging!

Yep, the only improvement I could see would be putting in Durburz over the captain, but that might drop your numbers too much. Of course then you actually have someone for CoC and TKaK. And yes, the prowler archers are awesome, they can actually hit something, unlike normal goblins; and they have the trapping rule and throwing weapons, perfect for charging in and supporting when the two lines get stuck in.

at this points lvl you want to get as many models as possible.

durburz
cave troll
(this bit is up to you but ill give a rough outline)
as many bows as possible, lots of prowlers, and roughly half your troops should be spears (your arches are going to get into combat so your numbers really come into effect)

at this points lvl the shaman is way overkill and and you dont have the numbers to make fury even worth it. and durburz's courage and will does fine in courage tests

Contest of Champions and To Kill a King, basically scenarios that focus around your armies leader and as Durburz is the strongest Moria Hero (aside from the Balrog) he would be the best to take in this situation so you can at least have a reasonable chance of winning.

Yeah, I know what Contest of Champions and To Kill a King are, I just couldn't figure out the abbreviations! :-) I don't have Durburz so I'll probably buy him as soon as possible, so I'm just going to promote my captain to "king" status.

at this points lvl goblins do really well cause of their numbers, and you even get a cave troll and a decent hero :)
CoC you should have durburz get easy kills, while ur troll does his best to kill the other hero (or just scare him away so he doesnt get kills)
you could even tag team durburz w/ the troll so durburz almost always wins the fight and gets to strike... but their hero will be getting kills too, so best use the above method
to kill a king should be a breeze, durburz has good survivability at this points lvl, you have tons of stuff between durburz and his assailants, and a troll to break through his line and kill the hero (just be sure the troll doesnt get surrounded, better to let him wither down their army than lose him)

As for contest of champions and durburz being the best moria hero, i disagree, a wild warg chieftan can lead a moria force and is a far better fighter, all you need is a budget wraith to keep your gobbo's in line and your set.

a warg chieften and a wraith? thats getting expensive and really hurts your numbers most ppl at this points lvl will only have a captain, or POSSIBLY a cheap named hero (but even then it will cost a fair bit and they will have too few numbers)
not to mention that a warg cheiften is not in the moria force, so you have to ally in him AND the wraith AND some how get a moria hero if u still want the prowlers.... and quite frankly the prowlers + durburz will be more than worth it

I have to agree with Shadowswarm; and even though the warg chieftain might be better than durburz, the list the chieftain is in does not include prowlers. Btw, update on the game, my sister is broken and two of her dwarves have run away while I'm one warrior away from breaking( which will most likely happen this turn) we play really sporadically because of our school being so long we only have a little time at night to play. I'm going to drop the shaman and take durburz as my hero next game, which will probably be with my dad.
