I need a break from being evil all the time, so what are Dwarves like in SBG? And the models, are they fun to paint and make conversions with? Fanks.

Oh gosh, they're so annoying to fight. They have a minimum of 5 defence, and that's the rangers. Going up against enemies with an average of 7D is incredibly difficult, not to mention the fact that their heros are harder to kill than anything else on the side of good.

I play with Dwarves quite frequently. Having D7 is incredibly useful.

Things to consider:

Ally in Spear Support! Mine takes the form of the Grey Company.
Khazad Guard are your friend! Watch em dismantle Uruk-hai, just give them the support they need to win the fight.

I enjoy painting the metal models, wasn't really big on the new plastic warriors.

For a while I played my large Dwarf force with just things included in the Erebor army list, but when I allied in some Gondorian spear support, my Khazad Guard all of a sudden had 2 strength 4 attacks instead of one! This resulted in squashing my brother's isengard uruk-hai all the easier!

LOVE the Beardlings!!

They are tough, but slow. S3 will make for a long game though, it will come down to rolling 6's to win fights. Unless you upgrade or take elites (S4). :D They are awesome :D

As for converting? Hard to do, they are a solid one piece model. Not meaning you couldn't clip/cut/saw/bend parts of them. I have converted a few to have different arm and leg position, even shaved the beard off one to make a female dwarven warrior :shock: but overall they are hard to do major conversions.

You do know dwarven women have beards, right!?! That's why they are mistaken for male dwarves and that's what started the rumours that there are no dwarven females!!!

Iron guard and kazad guard are essential.
Dwarf models are quite fun to paint.

Adam Troke once converted a whole army of dwarfs to wear backpacks with sleeping bundles on their backs as Dain's kin would have done as they travelled... cool idea.

Iron Guards are better than a Khazad with support. They don't have as much defence or Bodyguard, but they have throwing weapons and have a default 2 attacks.

Except an kazad with support is technically 2 wounds and D7 is better than D6 vs S4 evil men n bows and S2 evil bows.

But yes I agree iron are better than kazad but I would usually take 11 kazad and 7 iron.

1 IG=15 pts. 1KG=11. Then you have to ally in support, which means not only around 8pts for the spearman, but also around 50pts for a hero as well, so you can have a LOT more IG in a dwarf army than you can KGs with support.

With the new rules wouldn't allying in spearmen for dwarves (or even Rohan I guess) be difficult to pull off as you can't deploy the allies within the dwarven warband (I think) and given the warbands may deploy far away from each other you may just end up with a weak warband with a cheap hero and only spearmen secluded from your main force.

Its true that this can happen, but its part of the randomness of the game. Which adds the flare. Also with proper placement of warbands with different deployment zone you can have warbands only being separated by 1 movement turn.

You can actually have the supporters within an inch of each other, just put the warbands on the very edge of the deployment zones.
