Hi all, I was browsing Games Workshop, looking for nice cool looking pieces to paint, and saw the Khandish Charioteer. I like the look of the Charioteer and in particular the King riding his chariot, but looking at there stats they don't look great. What does everyone think? Are they worth buying and playing with? Has anyone played or played against one? Many Thanx x

Well the fight increase was definately needed, but still not enough really to make normal Charioteers competitive, unless you know for certain tat you will be facing a lot of cavalry. Especially against Rohan.

The king on the other hand, yes, you can have him lead regular horsemen or kataphrakts if you want.

All this is assuming you mean in SBG.

In WotR, they are as effectictive as Mordor Trolls, and the Kings as effective as Isengard Troll Captains.

I have played against them in WotR and SBG. GtW summarized pretty well. In WotR they suffered the same (not!) Hard to Kill issues though the King could be effective if played well. With the lessened effectiveness of ranged fire (and some magic) combined with the new deployment rules I think the King leading cataphrakts can be effective but I'm not so sure about the value of basic chariots.

I must say though that, well painted, they are some of the more impressive models to look at on the table.

Yeah it's for SBG gaming, I think they would be an awesome model to paint, and look great on the table like you say, but obviously because of there price, I would need them to be competitive as well, so looks like the one to go for is the King on his chariot leading normal cavalry?

If chariots are monstrous mounts, then they get the monster rules too. We're waiting on the FAQ from GW, but even if they get Barge they'll be more worthwhile.

They'll be excellent with Rend, they'll be particularily effective against dwarves. Reading the rules as written, they do gain all of the new monster rules.

I was wondering if they were classified as a "Monster" in the new books but didn't want to muddy the waters here asking. Yeah, with reduced bow effectiveness and the new Monster attacks available I think Chariots could become very playable.

The book does say that the chariot is a monstrous mount! So that's good then if it gets the new monster rules

(sarcastic remark) It is certainly entertaining imagining a chariot hurling an opponent....

The chariot runs over the wee small opponent! As the wheel spins over his helpless body, he is hurled backwards!!! Totally believable hehe

The only models with less str are hobbits, so the so the standard chariots won't be hurling anybody. The King might, but even his selection of possible hurlies is pretty small.

True, it's not strong, however to be able to attack against an enemies strength would be quite useful
