If he's got the ring there's not much you can do. He's statistically invincible

Spam him with warriors by trapping him and hope he loses. Luckily your defence shouldn't mean too many casualties.

I hear that the best strategy, though it is but a fool's hope, involves a hobbit and a volcano.

That still requires him to roll four "1's" with the ring as he'll just use might to boost the first three. I played a test game once with about 1500 points against Sauron and he killed all of them pretty easily

You can't use might on the one ring any more, since it doesn't count as fate any more and there is nothing that say you can.
I fought agains sauron,
Just use Heroic stikes and to win and use piercing stike, he wounds most of the units on 3+ but if you use piercing strike you can boost your S to 6 for example only needing to roll a 6 instead of a 6/6

or just let it go and accept he will kill so mutch and you just claim with your troops the objective because you should outnumber him with your dwarves and take the objectives.

I have never heard that he cant use Might on the ring. Is there something in writing stating this?

If Sauron does not have the ring, then he can be beaten with just patience. With only 3 attacks, he will lose fights more often than you think, especially since he will want to save his might for the ring. Also, if your playing Dwarves, just use the King's Champion or Heroes like Balin or Dain since they will peirce through Sauron's defense a lot more easily.

They reduced his number of attacks to 3? That stinks.

No, he's always had 3 attacks, check the old One Ring Blue book if you don't believe me, maybe your thinking of Wounds?

"and there is nothing that say you can."

You can use might on any dice roll.

How to defeat Sauron is to make him useless. Use heroic moves every turn near Sauron; if he uses Sauron's might to counter and use his own heroic move, all the better. If Sauron has no allied heroes who can call heroic move for him, GREAT. Then, when you get your chance to move, charge him with a pair of models. And keep doing so. Your opponent will be out numbered drastically because of the amount of points put into Sauron. Sauron can cast magic, so you don't want to just charge with one, and he kills it with Chill Soul.

How then, will you repeatably charge Sauron, who has Terror, Drain Courage, and Ancient Evil? Well Khazard Guard have Bodyguard, Dwarves have good Courage already, but Floi is your ace in the hole. Floi can REMOVE TERROR from Sauron for at least 3 whole turns, more as his will returns to him every time you kill a multi wound model or Hero. On these three turns, charge with 2 basic Dwarves.

If you are playing Lords of Battle, expect to lose, but for the other game types you will probably be fine. If you feel like you want to try to kill Sauron, I still think Floi is a good choice because he can get rid of Unstoppable or The Lord of the Rings, whichever one seems more annoying. But considering his Str 8 versus D 7 (dwarf warrior with a shield) only wounds on a 4+, he really is not that potent. When he gets the charge, he will still probably just be surrounded by basic troops you plan on charging with later and his own allies.

Like others have said, play the game type, break his army, and ignore Sauron by slowly feeding him guys. He isn't a monster, so use a trick from the old days to bore him to death XD

No you can't. The list of things you can use Might for in the Hobbit Rulebook is exhaustive and it clearly states that you can only use Might in other circumstances if it specifically says so. There are in fact an awful lot of dice rolls that you cannot use Might for and they are very often special rules.

One of the things you can use Might for is to boost a Failed Fate roll so, if Sauron's One Ring rules don't state that he can use Might, then it will come down to whether or not his One Ring rules count as Fate (I'm not sure on these last 2 points as I don't have the Mordor book to hand).

Wow you are right Dr. Grant, thank you for clearing that up. I guess I have always missed the line where it says it is only the following, then lists them. I guess I just read the first line under might where it says you can adjust a dice rolled on the heroes behalf lol.

Reading Sauron's rule for the One Ring, like you mentioned it would need to be a Fate roll but it is not. Therefore, yeah as others have said and have you have guessed, you cannot use might to adjust his One Ring rule.

Well, that is probably a good thing then :-D

Can Floi remove the One Ring? Does it count as a special rule? 'Cause that would definitely be the way to go. Then just Heroic and Piercing Strike. Vault Wardens would be good against him too. Because he wounds them on 5's.

No Floi cannot. It was FAQ'd, I'd had the same idea myself

Damn... Because if he could I'd definitely take him in my upcoming 1600 point battle against Sauron + spam orcs.
