How many Abrakhan guard?

I am purchasing some of these and wondering how many is good in an army??

Like for 500 and 750 pts would be nice. I have plenty of Harad to fill out an army without them so Im wondering.

I am probably gonna get 6 just enough for half a warband because of price but what do most people suggest?

Excellent troops for their value! i would make an army out of them but because of their cost in $ I have 6 guards supported by 6 regular haradrim spearsmen. The guards wound most enemies on 4's! Guards (plus spear support), Watchers (plus spear support), and Muhad Camels with half trolls are how I roll with Harad.

What I usually do is collect enough of every special unit type like Abrakan Guards, Watchers of Karna, or Serpent Guard to comprise a complete warband by itself, so 12.
Less common but main infantry units like Men at Arms of Dol Amroth I collect 2 warbands (24).
Plastic troops 3-6 warbands (36-72).
For every army.
But then again... I'm friggin nuts when it comes to collecting miniatures.

So for 500 points half a warband (6) and 1000 points a full warband (12) for each special unit type in an army.

Yeh the 6 for the 500 and the 12 for the 1000 would be more or less the way most people would run most armies and especially Harad unless you're a horde nutter and field just harad spearsmen and bows!

I bought the king and a body guard of 6 as I liked the miniatures and would literally buy almost everything that G.W. released. Under the old rules 2 handed weapons could not be supported by spearmen, now they can which makes them really very effective, particularly if supported by Eastelings with pikes!

Personally I would be tempted to overspend as I strongly suspect that they will be OOP within the year, and it would be better to have too many and sell a few on eBay later than to regret buying enough! I would suggest at least 12 if not 15, naturally with Harad spear support.

I say you should have 18-24 of them, all supported by spear-archers. Absolute minimum of 12. The guards should be the core of your army. If you only have 6, they will be the targets of bowfire and die sooner as they have the same defence as your less elite warriors therefore you need to maximise your Guards and use them as the core of your army, eliminating such problems, especially since they are nit penalised for their 2-handed weapons in any way.

OHHHHH NOTHING!!! Except when your playing as elves and are out numbered 4 to 1 then they are an absolute pain

I've recently started a moria horde and my mates just hate to play it hahaha

I hope you mean that for 1000? Because an army at 500 points with 18-24 guards would be pretty one dimensional, once you add heros you wouldn't even be able to field enough spear support with the remaining points unless you went all on foot haradrim chieftains.

I mean for 600-800pts. For 1000pts you should have 24-36 of them.

At 500pts you can have 17 Guards, 18 spear-archers, The Golden King, 1 Taskmaster and 1 Harad Chieftain.

Thats a great call, as the Haradrim can take spears and bows, they can also be upgraded to Abrakhan Guards as well, but I would feel numbers are more important here, especially if up against the afore mentioned elves!

As so much of the LOTR metals have been going OOP, even popular and more or less essential troop and heroes from the range have now gone. The A.G's are vaguely obscure and I have seen the way the wind is blowing!

I've been trying to collect in 12s as well. I think the warbands rule is quite popular and here to stay.
