Dwarf army players, help me out.(unofficial list)

Ok, so Ive never been a dwarf guy, frankly because I hate slow movement for such point heavy units....but now, through auctions ive come into many dwarves, and Id like help putting an army together.

750 pts is the goal

KEEP IN MIND I play locally, and Im sure my buddy wont mind me using Thorin as a warband leader for like Iron Guard, and Khazads, etc. So, Im assuming Thorin and Dwalin should be my first two picks for leaders.

Here's what I own:

-Thorins Company
-Dain
-Balin
-Murin
-Drar
-Floi
-Gimli
========
-13 iron guard
-10 vault warden TEAMS
-22 Khazad Guard

-16 regular warriors shield and axe
-14 bowmen
-7 2 handed axe warriors
ALSO, for this last group^ Ill probably use them as warriors of Erebor or something, and Im going to make a handful of them into spear bearing warriors. So please include that if you can!

My main thoughts are like Thorin, Dwalin, Old Balin profile from Lotr, and Gimli for warband leader top choices.

Then for the army, I would assume like 4-5?? vault warden teams? Maybe 12 Iron Guard or 10, and then what else?

Never did it before, so any thoughts are a help. Thanks guys!

Most of the time we play purely till we know someones gonna be owned completely no breaking points nothing but pure battle.

Might aswell make your own system and play that

seeing as you just disregarded pretty much every rule...

my 750pt list which works well is: (EW = Erebor warrior)

Thorin w/ Orcrist & Oakenshield
5 EW w/ shield
6 EW w/ spear

Dwalin
5 EW w/ shield
6 EW w/ spear & shield

Captain of Erebor
5 EW w/ shield
6 EW w/ spear & shield

Gimli
5 Iron Guard.

Lots of high D units which stick around, spear support for everyone and 3 powerful heroes capable of taking on pretty much every hero evil can throw at them.

Army Lists were never my strong point but I always find dwarves are best played with an elite force and with 13 Iron Guard I don't think you'll struggle with that. As to how to play, I try to get my heroes to carve through my opponents weaker models and with heroes like Thorin, Dain, Dwalin and the Old Balin this shouldn't really be a problem. My group tends to play how you do, no breaking just pure battling but this does mean your dwarves may have to kill more enemies than they would otherwise but guess that's the fun part right

Bows can be a good choice but I find you need quite a lot to be effective in scaring the enemy, one final tip would be to big up their defense hugely. The effect won't last long but can make your opponent wince when charging your models, hope this helped

Yeah...well.....I just find it frustrating that the old dwarves list has so many cool options and even moreso, awesome looking models, but their leaders are either boring to me as characters, or the game just doesnt make nice profiles for them.

And as for the new dwarves....I like the leaders, but all they have are warriors of erebor to choose from....I hate the lack of options......I mean, there are grim hammers, but...yeah....BAHAHAHAHHAHA NO.

Technically, if you wanted to make it about the lore of everything, I could just say Khazads are 'Thrors Guard' and Irons are 'Misty Mountain Berserkers' and use the same profiles. Maybe Ill at least leave the bows out of this......haha. I honestly just dont see how every army on middle earth wouldnt have spears....everyone uses spears.....

I mean, even in the Two Towers, Rohan literally SHOWED spear support, and the game didnt give it to them.....smh.

I think you're unfair to Durin's Folk in their heroes lol. The KC is an awesome piece and Murin and Drar are my favorite characters in all of SBG. Old Balin is a beast, Gimli is quite good too. Durin's a tank etc. In fact I've retired my Dwarves as no one ever killed even 33% in a game before

Well its really just I don't know anything about murin drar and have limited knowledge of durin. Furthermore I never saw Bal in in his prime as a leader. And sorry I can't.....

It's all good I'm just pointing out that your hero choices are already quite good for the list, better IMO than the Army of Thror list.

Think so huh? Durins profile is awesome....not gonna lie. I just like Thorins company though that's why. So guess its a good note that im doing it for the interest not just stats.

Regardless....I don't mind trying both I just like the new models.

What would you do for 750 pt using only old dwarves?

Interestingly enough I just played a 750 Point Durin's Folk army.
Pretty standard for myself is something like (or sub out Radagast to add a few more troops or boost a hero into Dain)

Kings Champion
4x Vault Warden teams
2x Khazad Guard

Balin w D. Axe (Army Leader)
4x Khazad Guard
8x Dwarf Warrior w/ shield

Dwarf Shield Bearer
10x Dwarf Warrior w/ Dwarf Bows

Radagast the Brown

See....that's my issue.....I've had trouble buying a Kings champion and shield bearer. I dont wanna pay full retail for a piece I'll use 3 times a year or less. And nobody wants anything from the dwarf command but the shield bearer so yes expensive haha.

What would you suggest with my available units^

I was fortunate enough to buy the shield Bearer when he was a solo piece. But as to what you have just swap the KC for Dain and maybe Murin and Drar for Radagast and the shield bearer (that last suggestion is based more off heart than head) lol they're very good but they're somewhat penalised with the warband rules

Yeah good deal. Honestly man Murin and Drar are awesome for their pts cost....seventy something a piece but the fact they have to be in the same warband kills me.....I hate expensive heroes.....but six might for that ain't bad.

keep in mind with murin and drar you can get dwarf warriors with S4... now get shield dwarves with D7 and S4.. quite beasty like

I too enjoy playing dwarves, the high defence allows me to be a poor player for longer during the game...lol
I found I was easily out manouvered and can be sniped at with bow. Haven't tried it yet but have been told Gandalf casting channeled blinding light may help in protecting them.
Have found vault wardens great if backed up so the enemy has diffuculty getting in the back and in previous game pushed some elf bow to the board edge with a slow and steady warden advance.
I use Erebor spear support with shield, plenty of staying power and great to get those extra dice in.
Be interested to hear how you deal with being out manouvered?

Well in all honesty, I get about one game a week in with this guy, and after this week(I promised him Id play elves) im traveling to another state for work, so I wont be playing as dwarves for at least 2 months maybe more....... :/

I wish it wasnt so hard to find ppl to play this damn game here.

Totally understand the feeling. I've been working to rebuild two different gaming groups and am just now starting to see the fruits of it. There's about 6 of us now in my local gaming group and about 6-8 at my closest GW that I only can frequent every few months ATM. I'm hoping to build a little more and host tourneys at this local comic-shop, but we'll see if that works out

Yeah thanks to the one ring, I was able to kinda set up a tournament at my local GW.....its 35 minutes away....and thats the closest.

We had 5 people....unfortunately, literally only 1 guy can show on even a weekly basis......

So yeah....
