I picked up a wonderful painted treebeard and want to use it in a few 500 point games. What do you think, which of these army is better?

List 1:

Warband 1:
Treebeard

Warband 2:
Gimli, Son of Gloin
8 Dwarfwarrior with Shields

Warband 3:
Erkenbrand on horse
8 Warriors of Rohan with shields
_____________________________
500 points; 19 models; 9 might

List 2:

Warband 1:
Treebeard
Ent

Warband 2:
Gimli, Son of Gloin
11 Dwarfwarrior with shields
___________________________
499 points; 14 models; 6 might

I think the second list is better, because all my models have D7 or D8 and the warrior are able to shield, in the first list I have more models, but 8 of them only have D5 and F3.
If I have two ents I'm able to position one left and one right from my warriors and hurl enemies and my warriors my don't need to shield, because they fight against models at the ground.

List 2 because warriors of Rohan are garbage and make you beak easier

I thought the same thing. Do you think this army could win against a normal army?

To build a list around Treebeard I would personally go all-hero. The problem with having one very expensive hero and a small number of troops is that a clever player will just concentrate on the troops and break you easily.

A nice themed hero list:

Treebeard
Aragorn "Strider" with Horse, armour and Elven Cloak
Legolas with Horse and elven cloak

Legolas is very low defence, but I figure he's better off with an elven cloak than armour as you'll be sniping with him.
Just for theme I'd be tempted to swap out the elven cloaks for Merry and Pippin in a fun game. But you're then getting back in to the "soft break target" territory.

To be honest, I wouldn't call this a competitive list, but I think it's close to impossible to make a bang up competitive list with Treebeard at 500pts. He's great, but he works better in big games. That's not to say it can't win- I think it'll pack a punch, but against some cheesy optimised list it probably won't stand up that well.

But it's not all about cheesy optimal lists I hope, is it? :D

Elven cloaks don't work if you are mounted. So it would be really hard against armies with many bows. I just looked, which models I have and thought the dwarfs would be the best two support treebeard because of there high defense and shielding with F4. I'll test it, two ents at 500 points will look awesome! :)
