Me and four other friends are getting into the older lord of the rings (SGB?) game. I never liked the new rules, as I was a huge fan of the older and smaller battles. But anyways, we are all putting together 350 point armies with the idea being to play tournament style battles. I don't know the other armies that are being built except I know for a fact that one person is building a wood elf army with Legolas. So this is for fun but I would also love to win. I am planning on building a Minith Tirith Army and would love some advice. I really really really want to use Boromir, so should I use his 105 point or 175 point figure? I know he takes up a ton of points but I figure he will kill everything, especially with his 6 might points. So now my question is, what should I do troop wise? As of right now i'm thinking of having a mix of warriors of Minith tirith (mix of shield and sword and spear and sword) as well as some rangers of Gondor for bows and spears. Thought? Advice? Thanks!:)

You could nab Faramir and Damrod and have two guys that can call heroic actions and still have 6 might. Also two 2 attack heroes can trump a single 3 attack guy, of course depends on who you fight, but against troops you will be better off.
This also allows you two guys that can shoot at Legolas and his buddies with fair chances.
of course the best part is saving 45 points that in a 350 point game you may put to better use.

Are you playing with the warband rules?

Against woodelves with the old rules
By the way you can have small battles with the new rules, too. It is a bit difficult to arrenge warbands but everything over 300 points works fine.
With the old rules I'd think about taking Boromir with Banner to get F7, but he propably is to expensive; so take the fellowship Boromir on horse and Damrod and Beregond to lead your warbands.
